Work from home

Working from home is a desired option and highly appreciated by employees in the
fields in which it can be applied. In Romania, this type of working organization is becoming
more and more popular, but it is still in its infancy. The pandemic context made us completely
change our lifestyle, but it had a major impact, especially in the field of work.

From my observations, telework and work from home are perceived as benefits for
employees. I can sum up several reasons why employees prefer home job to an office job, but
I will start with the most common ones. Because I personally went through this transition, from
work to office to work from home, I felt several advantages and disadvantages on my skin.

For me, working from home was an extra hour of sleep and I gave up on that half hour
that I devote to the preparation of the outfit and makeup. I can say that this made my mornings
easier, as I wasn’t a morning person. Because I didn’t live with my family, I can’t say that
working from home gave me more time close to my family, but I know cases. I remember those
moments when I was going to work when I was looking forward to my lunch break, but I
always had to wait for my colleagues. In the online environment, this no longer happens, you
can eat even while working, if your job doesn’t require a video camera or phone calls. You can
take your break at any time you want, because you don’t have to cover any turns. Another
advantage can be represented by the moment when the work shift ends, you can directly jump
in the shower or in the bed, there is no need to get in a taxi or bus and lose some time in traffic.

Although there are many advantages to working from home, I often miss that
interaction with colleagues, those mornings when we all get tired and drink coffee together.
The fact that I no longer must get to work makes me a little more anxious, I often refuse to go
out with my friends or coworkers because it somehow makes you feel much more comfortable
at home and that makes you to not leave your comfort zone. As I was saying, since I don’t live
with my family, I can’t say that this necessarily affected my family interactions, I kept in touch
with them over the phone and before. Because I was alone in my flat, my interactions with
people ended when my work shift ended and I liked that at first, but on the way, it made me
feel alone and I wanted to go to the office as soon as possible.

I have friend who had a normal job during the pandemic, looking at them sometimes I
felt excluded from this community. It’s as if we are in two camps, those who work from the
office and are happy that they can interact with people, other than clients, and on the other
camp, those who work from home and our interpersonal relationships is a nine to five thing.

From my point of view, working at home can offer a more comfortable life from certain
points o view, but it can also make it more difficult.

Personally, I still can’t choose which work environment is better, but I can only say that for
work from home you have to be very well prepared mentally and be very emotionally stable.
