BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE (BI) COURSE

1. Introduction

The objective of this course is to provide you with a solid background of Business Intelligence
with real business cases within 10 sessions.

We are proud that we designed a course containing the vital fundamental knowledge and skills
which a business intelligence analyst/data analyst needs for working in big data/tech companies.
Learners will have opportunities to gain basic principles of Problem Solving; Practical skills in
extracting and manipulating data using SQL code; Data storytelling and data visualization, AB
Testing; Business projection framework using big data and How to apply data decision-making
in many interesting business use cases.

What you'll learn in this course:

• Fundamentals of Business Intelligence: How to approach a business problem and support


managers in decision making with data? This session will help you understand the basic
principles and elements of business intelligence as well as data decision-making and how
to apply it to solve business problems (Session 1 + 9)
• Database and SQL - You don’t have to rely on others sending you data and executing
queries for you. Proficiency in using SQL allows you to be independent and dig deeper
into the data to obtain the answers to questions that might improve business decisions.
Four intensive sessions with real business use cases and practical homeworks will help
you code SQL proficiently (Session 2+3+4+5)
• Data Storytelling and Data Visualization with Data studio: You may find useful insight
from the data but the next question is: How do you convince your manager with the
information and findings you have? In this section, you’ll learn how to visualize and
present your data findings as well as telling your story with data. You’ll also explore
Google Data Studio, a data visualization platform that will help you create effective
visualizations for your presentations (Session 6)
• Business Projections & Plans and Performance Management: Introduction to practices in
developing projections and plans, including budgets, operating plans & in developing key
performance indicators and dashboards. (Session 7)
• Statistical Inference: Hypothesis Testing and A/B Testing (Session 8)
• Practicing solving business use cases: Improve product retention by building a retention
cohort and finding product “aha moment”. You will practice in solving this interesting
business use case from conceptualizing, extracting data using SQL, visualizing data,
finding insights and making proposals. (Session 10)
2. Who are the main audiences?

This course focuses on those who

- Pursuing the career in Data Analysis/Business Intelligence/ Business Analytics

- Business Analyst, Product owner, Marketer etc in tech-companies who want to equip
themselves with new skills in querying the data and analyzing data to gain the insight of the
business case before making decisions.

- Who have self-studied SQL through books or online courses but find it is hard to
imagine how these SQL code will be applied in data analytics and still find no ideas of how
to construct a SQL query with most of the interview questions or business use cases.
