Digital Signal Processing
Individual Assignment 1

1. Describe some application areas of digital signal processing in the field of:

a. Communication Engineering
b. Military
Instruction!!!:
• Not less than 2 pages
• Copy from others is not possible: Plagiarism!
– DO your own!

2. Consider the continuous-time signal given by:

xa (t) = cos(650πt) + 2sin(720πt)

a. What is the Nyquist rate for xa (t)?

b. If xa (t) is sampled at a rate of twice the Nyquist rate, what will be the
resulting discrete-time signal?

3. Find two different continuous-time signals that will produce the discrete-
time signal x(n) = cos(0.15πn) when sampled with a sampling frequency
of 8 kHz.

4. Consider the discrete-time signal given by:

 πn
x(n) = cos , −∞ < n < ∞
4
The above discrete-time signal was obtained by sampling the following
continuous-time signal at a sampling rate of 1000samples/sec.

xa (t) = cos (Ωmt) , −∞ < t < ∞

1
What are the two possible positive values of that would have resulted in the
discrete-time signal x(n)?

5. Consider a continuous-time signal given by:

xa (t) = sin (20πt) + cos (40πt)

The above discrete-time signal is sampled with a sampling period Ts to ob-

tain the discrete-time signal:

 πn 2πn
x(n) = sin + cos
5 5

Determine two possible values of Ts that would have resulted in the discrete-
time signal x(n)?
