Local

• Jose Rizal- He was a prolific poet, essayist, and novelist whose most famous works were his two
novels, Noli Me Tángere and its sequel, El filibusterismo. These social commentaries during the
Spanish colonization of the country formed the nucleus of literature that inspired peaceful reformists
and armed revolutionaries alike.

• Nick Joaquin - is regarded by many as the most distinguished Filipino writer in English writing so
variedly and so well about so many aspects of the Filipino. Among his voluminous works are The
Woman Who Had Two Navels, A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino, Manila, My Manila: A History
for the Young, The Ballad of the Five Battles, Rizal in Saga, Almanac for Manileños, Cave and
Shadows.

• Francisco Baltazar - Baltazar was a very influential poet and orator and many consider him to be the
Filipino William Shakespeare. He is widely known by his pen name Francisco Balagtas and writer of
Florante at Laura.

Foreign
• William Shakespeare - was an English playwright, poet, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer
in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and
the "Bard of Avon" (or simply "the Bard"). His extant works, including collaborations, consist of some 39
plays, 154 sonnets, three long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship.

• Joanne Rowling - better known by her pen name J. K. Rowling, is a British author, philanthropist, film
producer, television producer, and screenwriter. She is best known for writing the Harry Potter fantasy
series, which has won multiple awards and sold more than 500 million copies, becoming the best-selling
book series in history
