ME 16R – AIR CONDITIONING & VENTILATION SYSTEMS (LEC)

PROBLEM SOLVING:

Sketch the Corresponding PSYCHROMETRIC CHART Showing the Points and Lines of your Solutions

1. Calculate the specific volume of an air-vapor mixture in m3/kg da when the following conditions prevail: t = 30 0C,
W = 0.015 kg vapor/kg da, and Pt -= 90 kPa.

2. Compute the humidity ratio of air at 62 % RH and 34 0C when the barometric pressure is 101.325 kPa.

3.An air-vapor mixture has a dbt of 30 0C and a humidity ratio of 0.015 kg vapor/kg da. Calculate the enthalpy at 85
kPa barometric pressure.

4. An outdoor air is mixed with return air in an air conditioning system that operates at 101 kPa. Outdoor air flow
rate is 2 kg/s and its condition is 35 0C dbt and 25 0C wbt. The flow rate of return air is 3 kg/s and its condition is 24
0
C and 50 % RH. Determine the enthalpy of the mixture.

5. What is the specific volume of an air-vapor mixture at 30 0C and 45 % RH and pressure of 101.325 kPa?

6. If the sensible heat ratio is 0.80 and the cooling load is 100 kW, what is the amount of sensible heating?

7. The volume of a room to be air conditioned is 64 m 3 has an 80 % RH The pressure in the room is 120 kPa and the
temperature is 35 0C ( Psat = 5.628 ). Determine the mass of vapor in the room. Use Rvapor = 0.4615 Kn – m/kg – K.

8. A coil has an inlet temperature of 60 0F and outlet of 90 0F. If the mean temperature of the coil is 110 0F, what is
the by-pass factor of the coil?

9. If the latent and sensible heat loads are 20 Kw and 90 Kw, respectively, what is the sensible heat ratio?

10. An air condition room is held at 25 0C dbt and 50 % RH. A flow rate of 5 m3/s supply air at 15 0C dbt and 80 %
RH is delivered to the room to maintain the steady condition at 100 kPa. Determine the sensible heat absorbed from
room in Kw.

GOOD LUCK!
