Goan Fruits And Vegetables

INTRODUCTION
Goa has a great range of fruits that are available in large quantities. Fresh fruits can be found at
a low price all around the state. They provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for residents to
obtain erreichern with vitamins, as well as a culinary feast.

Onions, carrots, and potatoes, zucchini, asparagus, peas, peppers, tomatoes, apples, pears,
strawberries, grapes, melons, and watermelons are just a few of the fruits and vegetables grown
in Goa. When you combine these ordinary and citrus fruits with exotic fruits like mango, figs,
passion fruit, chiku, papaya, guava, and many others, it's easy to see why Goa is known as
"Paradise."

AVAILABILITY
Fruit can be found in a variety of places, including street side shops, supermarkets, bazaars, and
even street sellers selling freshly cut fruits. There are also vendors selling fruit juice.

Goa's fruit and vegetable markets are bright, picturesque, and provide excellent photo
possibilities. Because most tropical fruit farms yield numerous harvests throughout the year,
you may find them virtually any time of year. Fresh pineapple, banana, papaya, chiku, durian,
passion fruit, grapes, watermelons, melons, and figs are all available all year. In the summer,
mango, a popular fruit, is accessible.

1. MANGO

In Goa, the mango, India's national fruit, is readily available. Early April to early June is
mango season. Mangoes sell for around 100 rupees per kilogramme during peak season.
The price might sometimes reach 250 rupees. Mangoes such as Alfonso, Neelam,
Totapuri, Malgesh, Amarapali, Pairi, Neelam, and others can be found in Goa, but
Alfonso, named after a 16th century Portuguese adventurer, is the most popular.

- Taste - It's normally sweet, although the texture and flavour vary according on the kind.
Some mangoes are soft and pulpy, while others are firmer. Mangoes of the highest
quality are delicious.

and allergies. Two fruits each day is the recommended quantity.

2. PINEAPPLE

Pineapples made their way to Goa from Brazil. The fruit thrives in humid coastal
locations with considerable rainfall, making Goa an ideal location for production. There
are a lot of pineapple plantations here, with a total of 336 hectares under cultivation.
More than 5,000 tonnes are produced each year. As a result, pineapples may be found in
abundance across Goa. In Panaji, the retail price ranges between Rs. 45 and Rs. 50. It will
be less expensive in villages and more expensive in retail malls.

- Taste – Its fibrous flesh is yellow in colour and has a tropical flavour that perfectly
combines the sour and sweet flavours. Closer to the fruit's base, however, there is higher
sugar content, making this part sweeter. The texture is also more sensitive here. If your
fruit isn't ripe, though, it may taste sour. If you season your pineapple with a sprinkle of
salt, it will become sweeter.

FRUITS OTHER THAN APPLES

Many more fruits can be found in Goa, including delicious tamarind from the legume family,
coconuts, and exotic fruits such as dragon eye, rambutan, pomegranate, jackfruit, durian, and
garnet apple.

Coconuts may be found all across Goa, and they're even sold on the beach for Rs 20-50 per piece.
These are brimming with coconut juice, and the edible flesh in the centre can be eaten intact.
Pineapples range in price from 20 to 60 rupees per piece.

There's also cashew, which is fermented to generate the famed Goan drink "feni." This alcoholic
beverage is produced by a large number of home breweries in Goa.
