1. How many hours do you usually use your gadgets? For what reason?

I spend way to much time on my gadgets. Less than a lot of people. I don't talk on my cell
phone for one thing. I text a little bit, not a lot and generally save emails for when I'm on
my laptop. I type far more accurately there. I use my phone everyday. Mostly for playing
games and creating digital art. I'd say 9-13 hours daily. I enjoy this much more than
watching tv. Nowadays it’s really hard to avoid using it.

2. Tell something about these forms of technology addiction:

 Gaming Addiction

The term “Addiction” refers to getting attached to something physically and mentally.
Getting addicted to something brings imbalance in your life. You tend to waste more time
on that one thing you are addicted too. Gaming addiction can slow down the brain
growth. There are a lot of games that help in brain development by imparting critical
thinking skills, at the same time, playing video games for hours every day also results in a
slowdown in brain development. Gaming addiction negatively affects eyesight and also
results in Insomnia. Small children can be seen wearing spectacles these days, even I got
a number when I was 4th grade. Not all persons will get a weak eyesight, but getting
more screen time from a close distance definitely contributes towards myopia. Also, the
screen time negatively affects your ability to sleep. It would be harder to fall asleep at
night and get a good deep sleep. Getting addicted to gaming and wasting time is not good,
but the real question is that what do you do when you are not playing games?
 Social Media Addiction

Social media addiction is a behavioral addiction that has been found to negatively impact
the mental health and relationships of those afflicted. Due to the effect that it has on the
brain, social media is addictive both physically and psychologically. According to a new
study by Harvard University, self-disclosure on social networking sites lights up the same
part of the brain that also ignites when taking an addictive substance. The reward area in
the brain and its chemical messenger pathways affect decisions and sensations. When
someone experiences something rewarding or uses an addictive substance, neurons in the
principal dopamine-producing areas in the brain are activated and dopamine levels rise.
Therefore, the brain receives a “reward” and associates the drug or activity with positive
reinforcement.
 Online Gambling Addiction

Many factors can contribute to a gambling addiction, including desperation for money,
the desire to experience thrills and highs, the social status associated with being a
successful gambler, and the entertaining atmosphere of the mainstream gambling scene.
Unfortunately, once a gambling addiction takes hold, breaking the cycle is difficult.
Severe addictions can take hold when someone feels desperate financially and wants to
make back what they have lost. Once the person finally wins, while they may end up
collecting a massive amount of money from that win, it is rarely enough to cover what
has already been lost. Most gamblers never even come close to breaking even.

 Pornography Addiction (online sexual addiction)

Porn addiction is probably the fastest growing addiction worldwide. Porn addiction is one
of the several forms of sex addiction. A porn addict will usually know they are addicted,
living a secret life, and have internal conflicts about their “double life.” They usually feel
like people wouldn’t love them, accept them, or want to be with them if they really knew
about their secret porn life. Porn addiction can be used to escape abandonment, family of
origin issues, neglect, or abuse including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. It can
also be used as an escape from situations caused by poor choices. Pornography creates a
fantasy world. When a porn addict goes to this other world, they are accepted, loved, or
even worshiped. The porn addict makes up the script and the behavior of the actress or
actors in their mind or by choice of porn and leaves this world to be served in the other
world.

 Online Shopping Addiction

For many people, shopping is a relatively normal activity of daily life that you give little
thought to. For others, however, shopping takes on an entirely different meaning. It can
become as destructive as any other addiction types and result in a financial nightmare for
the shopper and family alike. This is referred to as shopping addiction or compulsive
shopping. The Internet, quite similar to shopping, is a relative normal activity in most
people’s daily life. However the rise of the Internet has increased the ability for
consumers to shop in more locations, shop for longer periods of time and purchase more
items with ease.
