Laboratory Exercise No. 9

STREAM CLASSIFICATION
A. Given the rainfall-runoff data of three different catchments from three different Southeast
Asian countries:

1. Determine the equivalent rainfall intensity in mm/hr and the equivalent runoff
discharge in m3/s of the different catchments.

2. Compute the annual runoff coefficient (Mapawa & Babon Catchments) and annual
total and direct runoff coefficients (Gong Cao Catchment).

*For Babon Catchment, compute the average rainfall and total runoff from the
given three sub-catchments. Then, compute the average monthly values of rainfall
and runoff – and use these values to compute the runoff coefficient.

4. Place the generated graphs in the same page/sheet. Determine and discuss whether
the resulting graphs indicate a perennial, intermittent, or an ephemeral stream.

B. Discuss the importance of determining the classification of a particular stream and/or

watershed.
