- The story begins in California’s Santa Clara Valley, where


Buck was born and lived happily like a king.“Buck lived at a big
house in the sun-kissed Santa Clara Valley.” ( London, page 1).
Also, In the story, the author mentioned this event happened in the
fall of 1897, “And this was the manner of dog Buck was in the fall
of 1897, when the Klondike strike dragged men from all the world
into the frozen North.” (London, page 2). when the men from over
the world had flocked north because of the gold rush in Klondike,
just east of Alaska, and the details also indirectly gave an
explanation because Buck was captured and sold there. Because
they needed big, athletic dogs to be sled dogs. “Because men,
groping in the Arctic darkness, had found a yellow metal, and
because steamship and transportation companies were booming
the find, thousands of men were rushing into the Northland.”
( London, page 1).

Lam) Kind of conflict that Buck has to face in this part is Person vs Person. Buck from
a dog who lived in the love of Judge Miller's family, he was like a king, he didn't
have to work hard, he never got whipped, and he always got to eat delicious food.
But now Buck is sold to Alaska to be a sled dog, he always has to work hard, and
every day he has to deal with Spitz, a proud, arrogant dog who always causes
trouble for no reason. with other dogs. Buck was tricked by Manuel and sold him
to kidnappers. His neck was chained to the point of suffocation. After that, he was
subjected to beatings and tortures from these people. “ His jaws closed on the
hand, nor did they relax till his senses were choked out of him once more.”
( London, page 5). “Buck described a complete circle in the air, and half of
another, then crashed to the ground on his head and chest” (London, page 7).
Besides, Person vs Person, Buck and other dogs and Perrault and Francois also
have to face Person vs Nature conflict.“With four hundred miles of trail still
between him and Dawson” (London, page 18)
