THE AMAZON RAINFOREST


The rainforests of South America -The Amazon
rainforest- is the largest rainforest in the world, once
covering almost half the South American continent. It
once stretched across Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela,
Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia... However, the Amazon
rainforest is being cut down daily and has shrunk to a
fraction of its original size.
The Amazon is a wild and busy place. The climate is
hot, humid and rainy. In the rain forest we can see
hidden animals in the foliage. Also we can see insects

at the top of the trees. Approximately 90% of the


insects live there, because it provides them protection
from predators and it allows them to be closer to the
sunlight.
In the Amazon, moreover, we can see jaguars,
elephants, panthers, monkeys, gorillas, eagles, parrots,
red frogs, butterflies, the boa constrictor…
Plants, like everything else in the rainforest, grow to
giant sizes.The kapok tree can grow 150 feet high. Also
we can see palm trees, lianas and other types of trees.
