Question:
Explain any 4 reasons why motivating employees in the workplace is important?
(10 marks)

Answers:
Employee motivation is key to an organisation’s success. It’s the level of
commitment, drive and energy that a company’s workers bring to the role every day.
Without it, companies experience reduced productivity, lower levels of output and it’s
likely that the company will fall short of reaching important goals too.

The process of motivation plays a very important role in any organisation, profit or
non-profit. The managerial process of direction is driven primarily by the process of
motivation as it creates within the mind of an employee the desire to work in the
direction determined by the manager. The following aspects may be considered why
motivating employees in the workplace is important:

 Ensures organisational efficiency

Motivation plays an important role in changing the attitudes of the employees in
the workplace. Indifferent attitude is extinguished most efficiently by motivation.
The presence of such favourable attitude allows the organisation to thrive and
be successful.

 Great reputation and stronger recruitment

As we will all be familiar with, people talk about the things they enjoy, and more
notably, the things they don’t. Satisfied workers spread the word and in turn,
give the firm a good reputation as an employer. As a result, it becomes easier
to recruit the leading talent.

 Increases Productivity
Motivation as a process leads to an increase in productivity of the
employee. Motivation meets the needs of the employee and thereby creates
the drive to work at the best of his abilities. A well-employee will be willing to
put in more effort towards the betterment of the organisation than another
disheartened employee.

 Ongoing employee development

Motivation can facilitate a worker reaching his/her personal goals, and can
facilitate the self-development of an individual. Once that worker meets some
initial goals, they realise the clear link between effort and results, which will
further motivate them to continue at a high level.

 Leads to stability of work force

Stability of workforce is very important from the point of view of reputation and
goodwill of a concern. The employees can remain loyal to the organization only
when they have a feeling of participation in the management. The skills and
efficiency of employees will always be of advantage to employees as well as
employees. This will lead to a good public image in the market which will attract
competent and qualified people into a concern.

In conclusion, motivating employees is one of the most important tasks that

managers perform within their organizations, as work motivation plays an important
role for the company’s success. It is a simple process that requires an understanding
of human mind and behaviour. Such an understanding and proper action thereby
stimulating the motives of an employee helps in initiating and maintaining action and
helps extensively in satisfying organisational objectives.
