Introduction:

Career is an important life decision that everyone must make at one point of
time. in our present context we see that the youths between the ages of 17-18 are at a
critical juncture in deciding their future. so it is vital for them to overcome this
dilemma. To help students and adolescents in making career decisions, they should be
provided with guidance on how to overcome these difficulties. Kniveton (2004) says
that the task of choosing a career is not static or stagnant but it is an ongoing process
and is a part of the developmental process. Career planning is therefore essential, so
the Career Preference Record (CPR) can widen and provide students with a range of
career choice.
Review of Literature:
The literature on career preference (Pascual, 2014) of high school students
shows that most students preferred popular career choice like engineering and other
medical courses. Furthermore, studies have shown that the environment, opportunities
and personality are the basic factors that influence the career choice of students
(Borchert, 2002). Looking into this factors, parents and society, peer pressure
regarding career or vocational choice, information on the career and also school also
plays a vital role in career choice of students (Gati & Saka, 2001; Mtemeri, 2017;
Kniveton, 2004).
Career indecision has been a core issue for students and career counselors in
the process of choosing their future studies (Germeijs, 2003; Osipow, 1999). Various
theoretical models of career decision making have been brought in order to deal with
career indecision like John Hollands work on vocational choice highlights six types of
individuals recognizing the different occupational choice. Structural theories of career
choice hold that the position in society and the background influences the
opportunities of choices that are available. Developmental theories of career choice
view that developing a self-concept and realizing that the sense of self change is
important in planning for career (Gati, Krausz & Osipow, 1996; Gothard, Mignot,
Offer & Ruff, 2001)
