Family History Literary Analysis

The movie shows the real-life situation of families about having less time
and focusing on work that results to broken families. It is a very heartwarming
story about the value of life, marriage, trust, and love.
In this movie, the problem is that Alex has less time to bond with his family
especially to his wife, May. Alex loved his work and it doesn’t come to his mind
that his wife would cheat someday. The lover of May was Jay Roque. May have
been longing for love. She wants to experience again the love, care, happiness, and
effort that Alex gave before they became married. Accidentally, she found that
happiness, love and care to Jay. It already begins here the cheating. The second
problem is that when May had a stage 4 cancer. That time she revealed that she has
been cheating for 2 years already. Everything became worst and Alex became sad
and miserable. At the end of the movie, I think the problem was solved in the part
of cheating. Asking forgiveness, acceptance, and the power of love are still
remains. But the part of problem wherein May has stage 4 cancer hasn’t solve.
May still lay on the bed when Alex sung the song entitled Ba’t Ganun.
“Kapag hindi mo alam iyong reason kung bakit siya nasaktan, eventually
you will forget about it. But if you understand the cause of the problem, you will
never forget how to fix it.” (51:17-51:28). This dialogue gives courage to Alex to
talk about the problem with May and to lessen the pain and overthinking. Alex
learned to listen to May even it is painful. In real life situation, we need to listen to
others before we react to the problem and judge the person. Sometimes person
learned to lie for the sake of his loved ones. It is easy to forget the reason why they
are hurting if we don’t know about it. But when we knew about it, and feel the pain
that she or he felt, you are going to do anything to ease and forget the pain.
The story end in the way that Alex recognized his negligence as a husband.
He asked May when will she came back because he already missed it. He already
forgave May and plan to travel and have a date with May. May aren’t still awake
and Alex wants May to be alive even if he is not the reason of her happiness. I
think the author end the story that way for us as a viewer would bear in our mind
that a family is stronger than the storm. It couldn’t be destroyed. The love of your
wife and to your husband will uppermost. The problem in a family may become a
lesson on how to become more stronger than before. If I was the author, I would
end up the story where May passed her sickness and they begin to travel and treat
each other like a newlywed every day. I want an ending to be happy and I wish that
it would be the ending that would happen to our family. An ending that was happy
and love will uppermost. If I will add one character, I would choose Ms. Gloria
Romero as a mother of May. May has a friend who are willing to listen but I think
she needs a mother that she can talk about her health condition. So that, she doesn’t
feel that she is alone. At the end of the day, when this kind of problem came, when
we can’t handle it anymore, a loving mother is we need to talk to. It will give an
important role also with the lives of a husband and wife.
