My Work Ethics
My clinical exposure eased me into performing nursing functions. I remember when I first
started, I felt nervous about actually providing nursing care. When I compare myself to how I
was when I first started clinicals duty before the pandemic, I have definitely learned and grown
so much as a student nurse. We assigned in a sergery ward and hundled different patient and
the nurses in that ward was so helpful and they want us to learn from them they teach us on
how to prepare medications for our patients.

My ethico-moral conserns before our exposure is if I can properly provide care to my

patient. To prevent this situation to happend I always asked permission to my clinical instructor
to guide me everytime I hundle my patient. During my clinical exposure, I encountered an issue
that I believe is very significant. As a student nurse, our duty was to follow our health care
nurse around the ward and assist in completing patient care. The patient required assistance in
many of her daily tasks. The nurse asked if I would perform one of those and do perineal care
for her. I turned down her offer because I did not feel comfortable with my skill level. The
patient had a bowel movement during the night. There was a significant odour in the room that
overwhelmed me but I decided to continue with helping clean up and change her linens. The
issue that seemed significant, in this experience, was my feelings pertaining to intimate care.
During this situation, I was trying to achieve my role of a student nurse while being professional
in my actions. I did what I believed was right. Evaluating the issue with patient and my own
personal issues, I made a decision that followed my morals and values. I chose to react
positively to the situation at hand while learning from experience and following what I believed
was ethically right.

Recommend to my self and other student nurses skills will come with time and practice.
You will be scared there will be days you want to quit. There will be days you will question if
nursing is for you. Reflecting on my clinical experience has made me aware of my strengths and
weaknesses in my personal and nursing skills but with a positive attitude, we can make any
experience a great.
