HEALTH & WELLNESS TIPS

As you manage online classes from various locations around the world, we’d like to offer some
tips to encourage you to maintain your personal health and wellness.

For each hour of study, please give yourself the gift of a small break. Stretch and take a short walk or do
some stretching and mindful calm breathing exercises. This will help you to refresh your mind and
maintain your focus. This link includes tips for reducing digital eye strain:

2. Keep Active at Home:

According to the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, to achieve the
health benefits from exercise, people age 18-64 should accumulate 150
minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week. The Physical
Activity Line (PAL) is British Columbia’s physical activity counselling
service and your FREE phone line and online resource to active healthy
living. Call 811 with questions about fitness.

3. Connect with Activities Coordinators at CC!

Student Life provides opportunities to enrich the Columbia College student experience and
fosters experiences to allow students to be successful in their time at CC. Scheduled events and
activities, student clubs, and sports allow for a sense of belonging within the Columbia College
community. Visit our calendar for more information: https://www.columbiacollege.ca/events

4. Nutrition:
Feed your brain and body. At
least every 4 hours. Fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, and
protein snacks will give you
lasting energy. Try for 8 glasses
of water- based fluids per day.
Avoid products with caffeine
(coffee, pop, and some energy
drinks) as these drinks may cause shaking, panic
attacks, and cardiac problems.

5. Rest and Recover:
Ensure a minimum of 6 hours sleep per night. Your
memory and body functions will improve with rest and
regeneration.

6. Stay Connected to Friends and Family Online

Talk to family or friends when they are awake. Have dinner on Skype or WhatsApp while your
family is having breakfast! Watch a virtual movie together, chat, or play an online game! Meet
new or existing CC students via study groups, or in the virtual lounge:

7. Reach out for help if you need it!

Use your CC email to request a virtual appointment with one of the CC Nurses if you have
questions about how to stay healthy while studying at home.
Contact Carolyn at clangley@columbiacollege.ca or Claire at cgoth@columbiacollege.ca.
