"How French Fashion and Style Dominates the World"

Yves Saint-Laurent once said, “Dressing is a way of life”. A person’s identity can be seen
through fashion, and like a person’s heritage, we must also look at their family tree, where they
came from.

Good day everyone. Before we go further to our discussion for this session, let me
introduce myself first. My name is (name), your speaker for today, and the representative of
group (#). So, let’s begin--- fashion is the prevailing style (as in dress) during a particular time; it
is a garment in such a style; it is also the prevailing custom, usage or style. Did it ever cross your
mind the root of every fashion? How a country holds power when it comes to styling your
clothes? How a certain way of dressing in a particular country became the world’s most look
fashion? We don’t really question this things to ourselves in our daily life, but it will be awesome
if we get to know the answers to this. We can all agree that our style and fashion these days were
not pure 'Filipino thing' anymore. And for this session I will be going to talk about 'French style
and fashion', and how it dominates the world, not only in the Philippines, but in the whole world.
So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this session.

Fashion and style is something we deal every day. Even people who say they don’t care
what they wear, choose clothes every morning that say a lot about them and how they feel that
day. One certain thing in the fashion world is CHANGE. We are constantly being bombarded
with new fashion from clothes, music, videos, books and television. But one thing is certain
French fashion and style continue to dominate the world. French fashion paved the way for many
trends and designers of the world. Because France is known as a country of luxury, fashion and
beauty, with Paris as one of the world's fashion capitals. It also has many cities and towns with
an important history and industry of the entry, with various sized events and shows as fashion
weeks and fests. French fashion has continually leant in the direction of being extreme. It is
being admired everywhere around the globe. The French fashion and style is known as classy
and elegant, it is something that is hard to describe but one thing is for sure, it is so effortless
chic.
Nowadays, Paris Fashion Week is the hub of France’s fashion extravagance. Paris is the home to
many prime designers, including Christian Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent,
Jean Paul Gaultier, etc. That is why it acts as the center of the fashion industry and holds the
name of global fashion capital. But how did it happen? Looking back in 15th century fashion
design and production became prominent in France. During the 17th century, fashion exploded
into a rich industry, for exportation and local consumption, the late 18th century, Fashion’s
primary purpose is to signify wealth; if you have the money, this means splurging on frou-frou
layers of tulle, silk and velvet, along with intricate embroidery and heavy embellishment.
Women's fashion reflects their position in the society and is a visualization of the maxim that
"women should be seen and not heard". Breaking this ideology, at this era when women get
dressed every morning it is not just to put clothes, it is to express their self. In the 19th century,
fashion made a transition into specialization for modern term haute couture, originated in the
1860s, bringing good taste to fashion argot. It is essentially the choicest way of incorporating
basics into fashionable look. At the present, France has this influence over us when it comes to
fashion. French fashion has paved the way for many trends and designers around the world. Big
brands continued to dominate in the 21st century. France has experienced this kind of success but
before that they also face many other obstacles throughout the years, but no matter what, France,
French fashion and style remained a center for lavish, over-the-top fashion. France has
influenced us not to just put on clothes, but to dress up them. Because for them whatever
difficulties France faces, the country’s fashion industry will always fire on all cylinders and they
continued to fly under the radar. And Christian Dior once remarked that “Europe has had enough
of bombs; now it wants to see fireworks”, because French fashion and style speaks grace and
finesse remain ageless all over the world.
