INTRODUCTION

• Fashion is an important feature in French economic and

cultural landscape. French fashion has been an important
export for the country since the 15th century.
• Known as the country of luxury, fashion and style, Paris
sits amongst some of best fashion capitals in the world.
• French fashion has had the largest influence over the fashion
industry, paving the way  for many trends and designers of the
world.
• Paris fashion week which is a week-running fashion
industry event, has been in the spotlight for decades.
• Paris fashion week influences style, color, textile design,
printing techniques and materials all over the world
Role of media in creating a positive synergy
1. Fashion press, Magazine and Films
• The rise and spread of fashion culture of France was linked to the creation of
the Fashion Press in the early 1670 under the reign of King Louis’. The
creation of the fashion press brought France into the spotlight, and was the
first of its kind to separate different styles into seasons. These fashion pictures
were distributed throughout the French court, and to other places in France
and around the world which thus assisted in creating a positive synergy.
• In the year 1926, fashion magazine Vogue featured on its cover, the first
“Little Black Dress” designed by French fashion designer Coco Chanel. And
thus began a new and long lasting trend in fashion throughout the world
which travelled from Monroe to Lady Diana to Victoria Beckham and gradually
spread across the globe.
• Inspired by Coco Chanel, subsequently, designer Hubert de Givenchy designed
an iconic outfit for the movie  Breakfast at Tiffany’s which is the most famous
dress in the history of films and has further influenced both cinematic
costumes as well as the fashion industry at large.  It travelled throughout Europe
and spread across America, soon the entire world was dressing like the French.
• As for TV shows, Emily in Paris lead the way in
the fashion stakes last year. The Netflix drama,
which gained much media attention, went all
out in terms of styling its characters’ looks
according to typical French fashion. The
clothes worn in the show proved a hit with its
audience, keen to tap into chic French style. On
Pinterest, searches for "Emily in Paris outfits"
have risen 242% since Oct. 5, after the show
released.
• This show evidently has helped in creating a
positive synergy between French fashion
culture and the society. The people were highly
influenced by how fashion culture of France
was depicted in the show.
2. Television
• Fashion TV is an international fashion and lifestyle broadcasting
television channel having 400 million viewers around the world.
Paris fashion week is telecasted live on the channel and is
watched by millions of viewers all over the world. Fashion TV is a
major marketing vehicle which has helped Paris fashion to reach
people throughout the world and inspired them. Fashion TV
organizes certain special shows and invite fashion designers of
France who then talk about the latest trends and inspire
designers, stylists, celebrities and people around the world. Paris
fashion week decodes the seasonal trends of fashion which is
then followed by the whole world, thus popularizing French
fashion culture.
3. Fashion blogs

• Since their appearance in the early nineties, fashion blogs

have established themselves as a central platform for the
circulation of fashion-related news and information.
Several fashion bloggers have disseminate information
about French fashion and trends especially after the Paris
Fashion Week which generate a positive influence on the
mass.
• These blogs help in creating a positive synergy between
fashion culture of France and the society.
4. Social media

• The monumental power of social media today cannot be

ignored, particularly when it comes to the fashion
industry. Today, front row access to the biggest fashion
show of the season are merely at the touch of our
fingertips (or smartphones). The rise of social media has
opened the door for people (in any part of the world) to
take a peek into the glamorous world of Paris fashion and
take inspiration from them.
• Stories and posts are posted on social media by models
and designers from different countries influence the mass
and set a trend which thus popularizes French fashion
culture.
Conclusion
• Owing to digitization, the world has become closer
than before. Media plays a very essential part in day to
day lives now. Media has a huge role to play in Paris
becoming the fashion capital of the world. Various
media channels like television, magazines, social media
and films, French fashion has been spotlighted and has
been able to influence the fashion of the entire world.
Thus creating a positive synergy between Fashion
culture of France and the society
