- The grouting holes for the TSF construction project will be either 10m or 30-50m deep, with deeper holes only used if very fractured material is found at the base of shallower holes.
- Grouting will occur in 5m stages, with a water pressure test after each stage to check for fractures requiring grouting.
- Bentonite will not be required in the grout mix. Downstage grouting should be used where weathered rock is prevalent in upper strata.
- Consolidation grout holes should generally be drilled and grouted at least 10m in advance of curtain grout holes.

Dear Ricardo,
These are some clarification regarding the grouting holes, as below.
− The depth of the consolidation grout holes will be 10m – referenced to the top of prepared foundation level. − The depth of the curtain grout holes will be either 30m or 50m (referenced to the top of prepared foundation level), as illustrated on MWH dwgs OC-5525 and 5526. The only reason for deeper holes is if very fractured material is identified at the base of any hole. − The Principal reserves the right to order deeper holes if it is considered to be required. − There will be no change to hole diameter if deeper holes are specified. − Coring is not required. − Grout stages will be 5.0m. − All grout stages shall have a Water Pressure (i.e. packer) Test conducted, if the test returns a Lugeon value of less than 5.0, pressure grouting will not be required. − Bentonite will not be required in the grout mix. − The method of upstage grouting is generally acceptable, however, where weathered rock is prevalent in the upper strata, the method of downstage grouting should be locally employed. − Unless otherwise approved by the Principal’s Representative, Drilling and grouting of consolidation grout holes should in general be completed at least 10m in advance of the curtain grout holes.
