CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION AND ITS BACKGROUND

The Humanities and Social Sciences subjects provide a broad understanding of the world in which

we live, and how people can participate as active and informed citizens with high-level skills

needed for the 21st century. The subjects taught in Humanities and Social Science classes

include: History. A humanities tutelage preserves the great accomplishments of the past, provides

insight into, and understanding of the world we live in, and provides the paraphernalia to imagine

the future. It is through a humanities education that sophomore are empowered to make moral,

spiritual, and theoretical sense of the sphere. The Humanities and Social Science subjects include

a range of skills that can be represented broadly as questioning, researching, analysing, evaluating

and communicating. Students apply these skills to investigate events, developments, issues, and

phenomena, both historical and contemporary. Each subject has a different way of working. Skills

and strategies for each Humanities and Social Science subject need to be taught explicitly. The

type of questions asked, the information, evidence, and/or data gathered, and the analysis applied

will vary by subject. The subjects taught in Humanities and Social Science classes include: •

Introduction of to world and religion and Belief • General mathematics • Earth and Life science •

Discipline and ideas in social science • Contemporary Philippine arts from the religion •Oral

communication •communication and language research in the Filipino language and Filipino culture

• Philippines politics and governance • Statistics and probability What is HUMSS? Who even needs

these studies? If you think about the nature of humans, you realize that we are all social creatures.

Yes, even introverts are! Humanities and social sciences are essential for our development. Let’s
also see why practical research topics for Humss students are so important. During this crisis

COVID-19 pandemic, strengthening communication, transparency and trust is key to proper

containment measures. Communication can help in understanding and tackling fears,

misconceptions; strengthening community participation in addressing faced challenges. A two-way

communication will ensure that there is space to listen to concerns, feedback, myths and rumours

about Covid-19 as well as communicating information about the virus.


STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The point of this study is to dissect and analyze the significance of Humanities & Social Science;

within its context in education and in our society. It is expected to answer these questions in

particular:

1. How relevant are the topics being taught in the HUMSS strand?

2. How will HUMSS students apply their acquired knowledge in those subjects to:

A. Their community

B. Their relationships (family, friends i.e significant other)

C. Their day-to-day interactions.

How do HUMSS students deal with learning about subject topics that they heavily oppose of (I.e

social issues involving taboo affairs?

4 What percentage of students (from the HUMSS strand) are inclined to enter occupations that

involve acts of public service, or develop a career and profession that deals with the betterment of

society?
DEFINITION OF TERMS

Dissect - a very detailed analysis of a text or idea.

Prospects - an apparent probability of advancement, success, profit, etc. A thing that may happen

or be the case.

Applicability - is the usefulness of something for a particular task, the degree to which a thing is

applicable; relevancy.

Findings - this is where you present the data that forms the basis of your investigation; refers to the

totality of outcomes.

Containment - the process, or means of keeping something within limits.


SCOPE AND DELIMINATION

This study will focus on the significance of Humanities and Social Science in the means of

education and society. Further knowledge of how this study is beneficial will be provided.

Individuals who require references when analyzing the academic strand's prospects can benefit

from the conclusions of this study. The general applicability of the findings are still limited, and the

results of this study may be addressed from another viable perspective.
