Song Title & Link: Ice Ice Baby

Element Answers WITH evidence!

Diction: The word choice in this song was very informal. I think that the lyricist chose
this language and these words to direct the song towards a specific audience.
With the more informal language, younger people will listen to it and like it
more than other age groups. I think he’s also using this diction to make it
seem more casual and less formal. I think that the connotation of these words
is negative and very strong. The words and rhythm of this song are very
aggressive and intense.

Imagery: There were a lot of sounds described in this song, and the imagery was
excellent. One example where taste and scent were described was when it
said “Cookin’ MC’s like a pound of bacon.” Bacon has a very specific smell and
taste so the listener can imagine these. I think that by using the imagery and
descriptions the author makes it so that the listeners can relate more and
visualize the situation better.

Details: The author uses a lot of details and I think that the purpose of these details
were to make the image more vivid and help listeners understand the
message more. With all of the details, the listeners can fully comprehend
what’s happening in the song and it helps make the message clearer.
However, in this song, the details are written in a weird way, almost in some
sort of riddle, so while it paints a more vivid picture, it also makes the song a
little bit muddier and the message a little confusing.

Language: I think the language that the author uses does not really reflect education, but
it does intelligence and skill. While the language wasn’t formal at all, the
words that he used to create a story and rhyme were very unique but still
made sense with the storyline. I think his language pretty much reflects his
profession, which would be a musician/rapper/I don’t totally know.

Syntax: The only punctuation that I saw were commas in the breaks and then two
question marks. I didn’t see anything else, so it made it seem like he was
telling a very long, musical story that had no breaks. By only using two
question marks as punctuation, I think that it also helped make those lines
stand out because after each question there was a little bit of a pause which
really helped emphasize those lines and the questions that were being asked.
