REFERENCE RANGE

D-DIMER (PLASMA)

D-DIMER 230.19 500 ng/mL (Cut off) ng/mL(FEU)

METHOD : ENZYME LINKED FLUORESCENT ASSAY (ELFA)

INTERPRETATION
D-DIMER (PLASMA)-1.Fibrin Degradation products, which are highly heterogeneous soluble fragments, are a result of two
simultaneous phenomena:-

*Fibrinogen is coagulated by thrombin and factor Xllla to form stabilized fibrin.

*The fibrin clot is dissolved by plasmin into soluble fragments released into blood. The terminal product of fibrinolysis is Ddimer.
2.
DDimer is the only marker of thrombotic disorders which effectively determines the presence of stabilized fibrin.

3.DDimer is used for diagnosing thrombosis and monitoring thrombolytic therapy.

4.Elevated levels of D-Dimer are found in clinical conditions such as Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) and
use as an aid in diagnosing Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

5.Several physiological or clinical situations may lead to an increase in level of D-dimer,other than the unexpected appearance of
thrombosis (age, pregnancy, hematomas, infectious or inflammatory syndromes, cancers etc).

*A value of DDimer below cut off when combined with a clinical assessment of low pretest probability has been shown to exclude
DVT or PE with a high negative predective value (>90 %)
