The Real World
When I was a kid, everything was provided to me. Food, Clothing, Shelter, and luxuries. Even though my mom
was a single mom she did a great job providing for me with the collateral that she had to be absent while I was
growing into my childhood days. At first, I thought everything was “fine”. I could eat properly, sleep properly,
dress accordingly, and such. But as I grew older the world became more visible to me. I began to see how harsh the
world is and that how lucky I was that I wasn’t one of those kids who linger on the streets and beg for food every
day, but what frightened me the most was how people behaved. The children were suffering, and they don’t even
hesitate to turn their backs on them, worst they were disgusted by them.

Poverty has been one of the biggest problems that the world has. Poverty is a state or condition in which a person
or community lacks the financial resources and essentials or a minimum standard of living. This also means that
the income level from employment is so low that basic human needs can’t be met. Our basic needs are what keeps
us alive, it’s sufficient enough to keep us moving but when these basic needs are gone then it’s like losing your key
to your car. If these basic needs are gone slowly we will deteriorate, from being malnutrition to complications in
our organs to serious illness to death. Why go through all of this when all you need to do is eat three healthy meals
a day? Is that so hard to do? Those were my questions before I knew what caused this menacing adversary of
humankind.

Poverty is caused by one: inadequate access to clean water and nutritious food. Food and water are essential for a
human’s growth and development without food, our cells will not get the energy and nutrients they need to supply
the body it’s energy in order to function properly. Lack of nutrients leads to deficiencies, and as I said early, then to
serious illnesses that will cause death.

Two: Little or no access to livelihoods or jobs. This cause is very rampant in remote areas such as the mountains,
the farms, or a town far away from civilization. The reason this contributes to poverty is when a person does not
have a job, they won’t be able to earn any money to sustain daily living expenses such as rent, electric bills, water
bills, etc. And without money, you can’t buy food. Without food or water, it’s the same cycle all over again.

Three: Conflict. A very good example of a conflict is war. When countries go into war, the resources are being
focused on the war itself so those people who are just minding their own business going with their day, as usual,
get hit with poverty and will die eventually.

Four: Climate change: Why? What does mother nature get to do with us not earning a single penny? Well, that’s
because climate change hurts our environment where we get our food and water. Oceans are evaporating, fields are
drying up, plants and animals are dying, and I guess that’s more than enough to put us all in bankruptcy.
Five: Corrupt politicians. These crocodiles take some of our taxes that should be going to people’s salaries and
“build build build” projects but instead, these crocodiles steal them and what’s worse is that we can’t even do
anything about it. Of all the things I talked about, the only thing constant about them is financial issues. It all boils
down to being poor. Now, I am somehow beginning to trust the words “ Money is the root of all evil” but on the
other hand, money helps people grow if they use it wisely. By this time I bet you already know my stand in this,
Yup, Poverty is BAD and it must be stopped. That’s all.
