Vision : Make graduates employable in the field of MEP

MEP required in every project
Smart Cities, IT building, Data Centers, Malls, Residential Townships, Industries etc,
Also SNJ at any given time is working with more that 150 to 200 real estate companies
who are in need of employable graduates in the fileld of MEP. Every Engineering
graduate who completes the MEP Course from SNJ Academy will have a high growth
career.
With the experience of SNJ consultants, it is identified that there is a large shortfall of
employable graduates in MEP field. SNJ Academy will bridge this gap by providing one
month hands on class room training and two months on site experience. With this three
months learning an engineering graduate will be placed in the Real Estate Industry.
SNJ will also provide full assistance to get all candidates recruited.
Motive of SNJ Academy to share the knowledge gained from 25 years of experience of
SNJ Consultants with Engineering graduates to make them really employable.
The main recruiters will be Developers like Hiranandani, Tata Housing, Godrej,
Panchshil , Contractors , System Integrators and Consultant pan India.

What is HVAC ?

Heating,Ventilation & Air Conditioning(HVAC) is the technology of indoor and vehicular environmental
comfort. Its goal is to provide thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality.

❑ Applications

• Shopping malls
• Auditorium and theatres
• Hospitals
• Hotels & Restaurants
• Offices
• Commercial complex
• Luxury apartment
• Infotech park
• Pharma industry
• Telecom industry

Page ▪ 31
Types of AC system

Page ▪ 32
Window AC

❑ Advantages
• Easy to install
• Open vent for ventilation
• Easy Service and maintenance
• Low cost
❑ Disadvantages
• Noisy operation
• Obstruct daylight
• Window required

❑ Application
• Small residential
• Upto 0.75 to 2 TR
❑ Cost
• Rs 15,000-25,000/TR

Page ▪ 33
Split AC

❑ Advantages
• Less noisy
• Can be installed anywhere
❑ Disadvantages
• Installation require skilled worker
• More Costly

❑ Application
• Residential
• Small commercial
• Upto 0.75 to 3 TR
❑ Cost
• RS 35,000-40,000/TR

Page ▪ 34
Guideline for AC installation

• Wall and AC unit spacing: at least 15 cm of open

space surrounding its top and sides for proper air flow.

• Installation height:7-8 feet above the ground for

adequate cooling inside the room

• Outdoor unit location :No hindrance to the heat

dissipated from the condenser.

• Placement of outdoor unit:must be placed on a flat

and rigid surface

• Distance b/w IDU & ODU:The maximum allowable

distance between the indoor and the outdoor units of
split AC can be about 15 meters.

VRF/VRV system

❑ Advantages
• Energy efficient due to part load
operation
• Precise temperature control
• Simultaneous heating & cooling
• Heat recovery
❑ Disadvantages
• High initial cost of installation
• A system wide failure can disrupt the
whole system

❑ Application
• High end residential
• Medium commercial

Ventilation

Ventilation is the intentional introduction of ambient

air into a space tocontrol indoor air quality by diluting
and displacing indoor pollutants provide thermal
comfort or dehumidification

❑ Types
• Natural ventilation
• Mechanical ventilation

Page ▪ 61
Components

▪ Fan: drives air through an inlet duct and supplies it to all the spaces
in the building

▪ Filter :Filters are the alternative component in mechanical ventilation

system. The function of the filter is to shift the external air before
releasing into the building or spaces.

▪ Ductwork :The ductwork is the shaft that channels exterior air into
the building, or vice versa. Ductworks are usually round or
rectangular depending on its configuration.

Page ▪ 62
Components

▪ Fire damper :Fire damper is a component that is installed

at the compartment wall of the room.
▪ Its function is to avoid the fire from spreading from one
room to another. Fire dampers consist of folded metal
plates or louvres that will seal the ductwork automatically in
the event of a fire spread into the ductwork.

▪ Diffusers & Grille: The diffuser is located at the edge of

the ductwork where the air is released into the room.

▪ CO sensor: When the concentration of Carbon Monoxide

(CO) Detectors becomes too high, the fans starts
automatically and stops again when the Carbon Monoxide
(CO) concentration has down to the predetermined level.

Page ▪ 63
ACPH requirement as per NBC

Page ▪ 64
Compartmentalization

• Compartmentation plays a vital part in limiting the

spread of fire and smoke.

• Compartment is done to restrict the fire in a particular

compartment for 2 hrs

• Each compartment should have independent staircase

• Generally made up of walls, fire control curtains & water

curtains.

• Compartment size
A)for less than 750m² - 1 compartment
B)for 750 – 3000 m² - 2 compartment
C)for above 3000 m² - 3000/compartment

Page ▪ 65
Basement ventilation calculation

Page ▪ 66
Pressurization

• Pressurization is a
method adopted for protecting the exits from
ingress of smoke, especially in high-
rise buildings.

• In pressurization, air is injected into the

staircases, lobbies, etc., as applicable, to
raise their pressure slightly above the
pressure in adjacent parts of the building. As
a result, ingress of smoke or toxic gases into
the exits will be prevented.
