Pros

Patient Portal Improves Access

 A great way to save time and boost patient engagement is to activate the
patient portal in your EHR system.
 It lets patients type in their own information with a computer at home or
at a kiosk in your waiting room, freeing them from entering redundant
details on multiple stacks of paper forms and staff won’t need to spend
time entering this information now either
 As the country deals with the growing coronavirus pandemic of COVID-
19 infections, patient portals are proving to be quite useful.
 The Centers for Disease Control reports that telehealth modalities for
storing and forwarding secure messages, data and images work well in
patient portals.
 People are encouraged to adopt social distance nowadays; thus, this is
extremely essential.
 Patients do not need to come into the office to fill out paperwork
beforehand, saving time and reducing exposure to others in the waiting
room.

Increase Health Services Usage in Rural Areas

 HealthIT.gov (a USA health information technology platform) notes that
EHRs can help such individuals living in rural areas by providing a
clearer snapshot of a person’s health history, clarifying if that person
needs specialized treatment, and providing more affordable care.
 For example, if an individual in a rural area has already received certain
immunizations, an EHR can contain that data and prevent her from
receiving or having to pay for additional services she doesn’t need.
