COIMBATORE
PERIODIC TEST I
GRADE : 8 PHYSICS MARKS :13

General Instructions:
(i) The question paper comprises of 3 sections A, B, C There are 5 questions in the
question paper. All questions are compulsory.
(ii) Section–A - question no. 1 to 3 are of one mark each.
(iii) Section–B - question no. 4 is short answer type question carrying 2 marks.
(iv) Section–C - question no. 5 is long answer type question, carrying 5 marks.
(v) There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some
questions. A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
(vi) Wherever necessary, neat and properly labeled diagrams should be drawn.

SECTION A 2x1=2

1. Can the image formed by a plane mirror be projected on the screen? Give
reason.
2. The image formed in the running water is an example of diffused reflection.
Justify.

3. Read the paragraph and answer any 4. 4x1=4

When a ray of light falls on a surface, it reflects from the surface following
the laws of reflection. The image formed by a plane mirror is always virtual and
erect. When two or more mirrors are used, light undergoes reflections many times
from the different mirrors and we can see many images. This is because the image
formed by one mirror serves as the object for the other mirror and so on.

1. Multiple reflections take place when two plane mirrors are kept
a) only at 90 degrees b) only at 45 degrees
c) at any angle d) only at 30 degrees

2. The angle of incidence is

a) the angle that the incident ray makes with the mirror.
b) the angle that the incident ray makes with the normal at the point of incidence.
c) 180˚ minus the angle that the incident ray makes with the mirror.
d) the angle that the incident ray makes with the reflected ray.

3. The image formed by a plane mirror is

a) Virtual b) real c) erect d) both a and c
4. If the angle between the incident ray and the mirror is 60˚, then angle of
reflection is
a) 30˚ b) 60˚ c) 90˚ d) 15˚

5. Plane mirrors are used in

a) kaleidoscope b) periscope c) beauty parlour d) all of these

SECTION B 1x2=2
4.a) A ray incident on a plane mirror is reflected in a direction such that the angle
between the incident and the reflected ray is 110˚. Find angle i and angle r.
(OR)
b) Find the number of images formed when two plane mirrors are i) parallel to
each other ii) placed 120˚ at each other .

SECTION C 1X5 =5
5. a) State the laws of reflection with the diagram.
b) ) List any four characteristics of the image formed by a plane mirror.
(or)
c) Two plane mirrors are kept at right angles to each other as shown in fig. A ray of
light is incident on one of the mirror at an angle of 60˚. Draw the reflected ray from
the second mirror and find the angle of reflection for the same.

d) The number of images formed by two plane mirrors at different angles are
given below. i) 11 and ii) 7 .Calculate the angle between them.
