INTRODUCTION

The purpose of the following experiment is to test certain common assumptions

regarding solar energy. For instance it is assumed that solar panels on Mars will produce
less electricity than panels on our moon. It is also assumed that panels placed on the
equator of the moon will be more productive than those placed at the outermost edges
(the poles) of the celestial body, due to the angles which will be required when mounting
new panels.

The experiment will also help determine the optimum placement of panels in the
landscape.

It is expected that the further the source from the PV panel, the less energy will be
drawn from the light i.e. the lower the voltage reading on the multimeter. It is further
expected that the closer the incident angle of the light is to a 90 degree angle with the
panel, the more energy will be produced.

HYPOTHESIS

It is expected that the further the source from the PV panel, the less energy will be
drawn from the light i.e. the lower the voltage reading on the multimeter. It is further
expected that the closer the incident angle of the light is to a 90 degree angle with the
panel, the more energy will be produced.

MATERIALS

The following materials and instruments were used to complete the experiment.

● Solar panel
● Multimeter
● Alligator clips
● Lamp
● Ruler
● Protractor

PROCEDURE

1. First, the separation experiment was performed by placing the panel at increasing
distance from the light source -2”,4”,6”,10”,12”
2. Next, The panels were place at a sequence of angles to the light- 0 degrees, 30
degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degrees, and 90 degrees.

RESULTS

In the results, In table 7-2, it showed the numbers for the separation-lamp panels

4
which are in the figure above the graphs and the voltage too. The table 7-4 shows
the numbers for the angle to lamp and voltage too. The numbers were now
conducted to see what the graph should look like. The 1st graph shows the line
going down from voltage to distance. The 2nd graph shows the line going up, then
going constant, then up.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, The graphs showed that the 1st graph, which is the separation-lamp
angle to voltage, goes down, while in the other graph angle-lamp, the voltage goes all
over the place. The numbers show that the voltage has different numbers, due to the
different type of style (distance, and Angle).
