The industrial visit is to not just for our work at the console, but it is also a point of reference
of work at Adani Institute of Digital Technology Management. Our involvement with AIDTM
has been astounding.

Introduction to Company

Panasonic

Konosuke Matsushita founded Matsushita Electric Housewares Manufacturing works in


1918, in 2003 the company renamed it as Panasonic
Panasonic commenced its operations in India in the year 1972. In 2008, Panasonic India Pvt
Ltd was formed to integrate the different Panasonic interests in India. Mr. Diazo Ito joined as
CEO Panasonic India in April 2008 and ensured Panasonic’s aggressive focus on India with
heavy investments and expansion.

Anchor

Established in 1963 as Anchor Electricals Pvt. Ltd., now Panasonic Life Solutions


India Pvt. Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Panasonic Corporation of Japan.
Panasonic acquired Anchor, the 50-year-old Indian family-owned electrical equipment brand,
in 2007. The company produces low-voltage electrical switches and accessories, switchgear
and protection devices, wires & cables, lamps & luminaires and fans. It also sells home
automation products from Panasonic.
The company's new manufacturing unit has been built at Daman, India. The investment for
the plant has been Rs 200 crores and will produce a complete range of wiring devices. The
plant's current production capacity is of 240 million units is expected to double by next
fiscal,” the company said in a release. For the first two years, the products manufactured at
Daman will cater to the domestic market. By 2015 the company was expecting 5 percent of
their revenues to come from exports. The factory has adopted features like installation of
LED lighting, solar panels, and use of treated sewage water

Highlights of the visit:

➢ There were around 1100 female workers in the industry which are working
regularly.

➢ The company particularly uses copper wires for manufacturing the proper wires.

➢ There were manufacturing units of wiring & cables for making the telephone wires
and other home appliances wires and cables.

➢ There was a whole assembly line for making wires and cables.

➢ The company uses FIFO (First In First Out) method during manufacturing of cables
and wires.

➢ There were different laboratories for sampling and testing the cables and wires.

➢ There was one another manufacturing assembly line for making switches and switch
boards.

➢ Types of cables they are produced in the factory are:

1. Advance - Fr Building Wire


2. Twin Core Un-heated Cable
3. Fireguard Fr - Lsh Building Wire
4. Advance - Effr Building Wire

Analysis and Interpretation

Wirings & Cables Production:

➢ The products which were manufactured were wiring devices, wires, cables, switches,
switchboards and many more.

➢ There were 14 Conductors which have different diameters wiring like 0.3 die, 0.2 die,
0.25 die etc these all are in terms of diameters.

➢ There was one house wire plant in which there are 2 classes which were class 2 and class
5.

➢ In class 2, point 3 diameters and in class 5 below point 3 diameters were used.

➢ While manufacturing the cable, the industry was using first in-first out method in which
input-output of manufacturing wires and after that packing of wires are done.

Advance FR Building Wires:

➢ Anchor introduced Advance FR (Flame Retardant) wire confirming to IS 694, 1100V (1.1
KV) with specially formulated proprietary PVC compound giving exceptional flame
retarding properties to the insulation.

➢ It has a high oxygen index (LOI) of 30% and temperature index of 300°C against
specified category C1 values of 29% and 250°C respectively.

➢ Virtually packed with molecular fire fighters, it does not propagate fire even in severe fire
situations.

Telephone Cables:

➢ For manufacturing telephone cables silicon cables are used.

➢ There were high density and high voltage cables are used for making telephone cables.

➢ There were some colours were given to these cables which were
red, yellow, green and black. For eg: For earthing wires - green or black is used

Sampling & Testing:

➢ In the industry, there were specific labs or laboratories for sampling and testing for wires.

➢ There were approximately 20 to 21 wires were taken at a time for sample checking
and testing the wires

➢ There were some time periods take place for testing the wires for around 10 days.

➢ (Note: If any wires or any cables are having any kind of defects throughout the process
from procuring wires till testing phase then the company re-use that wires or cables and
again the whole process is done.)

Switches and Sockets:

In industry, there were also a whole manufacturing unit where they manufacture the home
appliances like switches and switch-boards.

The Products of switch and sockets by Anchor-Panasonic are:

“Super Brand” in this particular segment of the electrical industry and the amassed popularity
has simply made it a synonym for a switch nationally. Empowered by the technological
proficiency from Panasonic, it has constantly endeavoured to deliver simplistic solutions for
the residential and commercial premises.

Innovation and Designing Excellence is what Anchor has been bringing straight to the home
and business premises right from 1963. In the year 1976, it gave the nation its first Piano
Switch. Be it Ave Sistema 44 at the helm of the luxury modular, Vision with technological
excellence Woods and Roma Viola with stupefying finish in the premium modular, its aim to
deliver the best has enabled it to constantly occupy the ‘Numero Uno’ position for Switch

manufacturing excellence in India. With several brands like Roma, Roma Allure, Rider and
Penta, it has hallmarked its position straight to the heart of the nation. Its accessories range
includes a wide variety of Door bells, Spike Guards, Flexi cords, Plug Tops and Multi plugs.

The ability to bring a sense of security, quality, and affordability drives Anchor to bring not
just products but simplistic solutions that change for the better, suiting the customer’s
requirements.

Future Prospects

➢ The company will be focusing on becoming industry 4.0.

➢ The company will develop the cloud base database for data storage.

➢ The company will also look into demand forecasting which is integral part for supply
chain management.

➢ The company will also work for data warehousing for analysing and interpreting the
data.
