The second hand clothing market has been growing in Brazil,
and the trend is it increasing even more. GlobalData, a data
science company focused on market analysis, concluded that second hand clothes moved 24 billion dollars worldwide in 2018. The projections indicate that this number doubles by 2023 at 51 billion dollars.
However, with the pandemic, thrift shop owners’ lives changed
radically. Direct contact with the client has to be avoided, rendering the process of trying out clothes impossible. Therefore, the most viable solution at the moment is to transition into an e-commerce system.
PwC’s “Global Consumer Insights 2019” research indicated that
the percentage of brazilians that online purchase through smartphones at least once a month has grown from 15% to 50%.
