material to the real world

tools in classroom activities

-Game-based learning creates an environment where practice of the learning content takes

-The learning process comes as a result of playing the game. Gamification is where elements of
a game are incorporated into activities
-Online quiz creation tools like Kahoot! are not considered game-based learning
-There are no characters or rules when doing quizzes
-Types of game-based learning: board games, real life games, digital games
-Popular board games like monopoly can be adapted to different subjects
-Students can be involved in building the board game

-It is important to incorporate games that take into consideration student age. If students think
the game is too childish, they will lose motivation. It is important to remember that games are
not just for elementary students.
-A GBL activity is made up of different parts and the possibilities are endless because there is no
limit to the creation and type of players and the kind of participation that is required. Games do
challenge students and pushes them out of their comfort zone, but some students may not be
comfortable playing certain roles. Roles can be differentiated to include all students.
-Games are student-centered and even more so when they help prepare the game
-Critical thinking and decision making are two important components pf GBL
-GBL allows students to work as a team
-GBL fosters students creativity especially if they are involved in creating the game or there can
be opportunities within a game and students can come up with their own ideas
