1- OVERVIEW

Humanity has been changing its way to think and behave among the years, it would not be different
for the industry and commerce. Nowadays business must deal with new issues, adapting its
commerce’s to the new environments. Recently consumers have chosen more and more for Plant-
Based products, what is the reason for this this new demand?
One of the main reasons for this demand would be the various benefits that a plant-based diet can
bring to the consumers such as

- LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE. The journal of Hypertension has published an article that
explains the fact that vegetarians had a 34% lower risk of developing hypertension than vegetarians
“1Results: Vegetarians had a 34% lower risk for hypertension, adjusting for age and sex (odds ratio:
0.66, 95% confidence interval: 0.50-0.87; SBP: -3.3 mmHg, P < 0.001; DBP: -1.5 mmHg, P < 0.001).”

- KEEPS THE HEARTH HEALTHIER. The journal of the American Heart Association found
out that plant-based diets reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases by 16% and dying by
it by 34%. 2“…overall plant‐based diet index or pro vegetarian diet had a 16%, 31% to 32%, and 18%
to 25% lower risk of cardiovascular disease.”

-PREVENTS DIABETES TYPE2. Scientists have found out that eating plant-based diet with
high quality plant foods reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 34%.
3
“Conclusions: Our study suggests that plant-based diets, especially when rich in high-quality plant
foods, are associated with substantially lower risk of developing T2D…”

-IMPROVES THE CHOLESTEROL. According to the American Journal of Cardiology, LDL

can be lowered from 10%-15%, and for those who follow a more strict vegan diet it LDL can be
lowered by 25%. 4 “…vegan dietary interventions were associated with decreases of approximately
15% to 25%, and combination dietary interventions (vegetarian diets with additional fiber, soy, and
nuts) were associated with decreases of approximately 20% to 35%.”

Facing all the benefits that plant-based products bring, will the food industry adapt to this new
demand?
