With the aid of single-line diagrams, briefly explain the difference between symmetrical and unsymmetrical fault in power system (5 marks) b) The single-line diagram of a three bus power transmission system, which consists of three generators is shown in Figure Q4b below. All generators are grounded through a reactor of Zn = j0.05 per unit on a base of 100 MVA. If a double-line to ‘ground fault occur at Bus 2 (between phase Y and phase B) ; i) Illustrate the positive, negative and zero sequence equivalent circuits. Label all the reactance in per unit value. (1.5 marks) ii) Examine the positive, negative and zero sequence reactance in per unit. (7 marks) ii) Assuming that the bus voltage at fault location is 100 kV, examine the actual fault current resulted from the double-line to ground fault occurrence. (6 marks) b) _A differential protection relay is used to protect a single-phase transformer bank, which has a rating of 10 MVA and 60 kV/10 kV. The current transformers (CT) ratio of 200:5 and 1000:5 are connected respectively at high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) sides of the transformer bank. Design and construct a trip and block regions of a differential protection relay. Label the value of I,’ at the lower limit blocking region and I2' at the upper limit blocking region.
