(S marks) b) Figure Q1b shows a single line diagram of a three bus system. (8 marks) b) _ Figure Q5b shows a 345 kV system which consists of three zones using directional impedance relay. The relays are used to protect each transmission line. Zone 1 relay is set to 80 % reach of line 1-2, zone 2 relay is set to 120 % reach of line 1-2 and zone 3 relay is set to 100 % reach of line 1-2 plus 120 % reach of either line 2-3 or line 2-4. The line impedances, current transformer (CT) ratio and voltage transformer (VT) ratio are tabulated in Table Q5b(i) and Table Q5b(ii) respectively. i) Determine the impedance of the directional relay for zone 1, zone 2 and zone 3. ii) During normal loading condition, the current that flows through line 1-2 is 1000 A at a power factor of 0.95 lagging. Prove whether circuit breaker B12 will trip or not during the normal loading condition.
