By the end of this presentation you should be informed of the life and
death of the notorious Selena Quintanilla.
HAVE YOU HEARD ?
● Selena won Performer of the Year and Best Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987 at the
Tejano Music Awards.
● Jennifer Lopez played Selena in the 1997 movie made about her. They screen tested over
22,000 actresses for the role before deciding on Jennifer Lopez.
● Selena signed with Coca Cola to do English and Spanish advertisements throughout the
United States.
● There were more than 100,000 mourners at Selena's funeral.
● Selena Day is April, 16th. George Bush was governor when she was killed and he chose that
day because it was Selena's birthday.
Selena was born in Lake Jackson , Texas on April 16,1971. At
.Quintanillas’ young age of 10 she started as the lead singer of her
families band. She grew up speaking spanish but her father
Abraham Quintanilla taught her to sing in english then she eventually
started speaking it fluently. She was raised as a Jehovah's Witness
and would often perform in her father's restaurant.Her
popularity soon grew and she left school in grade 8 to pursue
music with her father's help. In 1990 her album Ven Conmigo went
gold and was the first Tejano record to do so.
Selena married Chris Perez on April 2, 1992. The couple met and began secretly dating in 1990
when Perez joined Selena’s band, Los Dinos, as the lead guitarist. They were married for nearly
three years before Selena was killed in 1995. Like the rest of the world, Chris saw Selena’s
rise to stardom, from a local Texas singer-songwriter to a Grammy winner on the cusp
of crossover success, the guitarist will forever be intertwined with her legacy because
of their one-of-a-kind love story

Selena’s 1990 album was the first Tejano record to achieve gold record status, me it sold more than
500,000 copies.

Selena became the first female Tejano artist to take home a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Album.

Selena’s Murderer
March 31,1995 the day Yolanda Saldivar took the life of Selena Quintanilla. Which
was extremely shocking because she was the president of Selena’s fan club. Saldivar
was accused of embezzling money and when confronted by Quintanilla she pulled a
gun and shot her twice as she tried to escape. Yolanda was charged with a life
sentence (25 years ) and will soon be available for parole in the upcoming year of
2025.
 SUMMARY
Selena Quintanilla’s life was short lived due to the president of her
fan club taking her life because she was confronted about
embezzling money from selena and two of Selena’s boutiques .
