To Whom It May Concern

I am delighted to present my opinion of Mr. Sazzad Hussain whom I have known for over 4
years. In that time, he has taken 3 courses I have been the teacher: Solid State Devices,
Optical Fiber Communication, and Optical Fiber Communication Lab. During my
acquaintance with him, I have found him to be one of the brightest students in his class.
Mr. Hussain’s conscientiousness and creative thinking allowed him to shine in my classes. In
the Solid State Devices class, he showed great enthusiasm in learning about the fundamentals
of the operation of semiconductor devices and it is not a surprise that his research interests
are along similar lines. I was quite impressed by his mathematical reasoning capabilities; he
displayed adroitness in solving complicated problems in the class. In addition, in the Optical
Fiber Communication class and the lab, he performed exceptionally well. He combined
theoretical knowledge from the theory class and intuitive skills to great effect in the lab. In
conjunction with the expertise he demonstrated with lab apparatuses, his excellent writing
skills were highlighted in the meticulously prepared lab reports. It came as no shock that he
was among the few students who scored the highest possible grade, A+, in these courses.
I have also advised Mr. Hussain during his stint as the chair of IEEE SUST Student Branch
and was able to see his leadership abilities from close. His ability to lead from the front was
evident as he arranged seminars on a diverse range of topics. The branch passed through one
of its most successful periods with him at the helm.
Besides his involvement with IEEE SUST Student Branch, Mr. Hussain was also active in the
department with arranging festivities like Annual Sports Week and celebration of the Bengali
New Year. His warm-natured disposition meant his juniors and classmates did not hesitate to
seek help from him. He would be seen assisting others in lab and research endeavors; his
collaborative mentality, I feel, explains why he was a much-admired figure among his peers.
To sum up, in my view, Mr. Hussain has shown all the qualities of an adept researcher. I am
certain that he will be a great addition to your university, so I heartily recommend him to the
Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department’s Ph.D. program.
