Barong Bali

Barong dance is a traditional Balinese dance which is still being preserved. The Balinese Barong Dance is
an ancestral art heritage originating from Hindu culture. Barong Balinese dance is one of the dances
considered sacred. Generally, Barong Dance is performed in temples and is part of traditional religious
ceremonies.In some parts of the dance, there are attractive performances that show the science of
immunity. but in its development it is also used as a public entertainment dance.

Barong Bali is a descendant of Reog and Ponorogo. In ancient times, King Airlangga moved and saved
himself in Bali by bringing barong ponorogo along with literary arts, Javanese script, and religious
matters.Broadly speaking, in ancient times the barong dance dancers were people who were studying a
magic science with ancient people who got knowledge from young waroks and old waroks who were
very powerful.

Thus, there are many types of barong that appear with a model of the shape on the head like an animal
that is different from each type, one example is the Elephant, Pig, Dog, and Bird.

The barong dance is considered sacred and they believe that the barong can ward off evil spirits that
disturb them. Quite unique, yes, the existence of barong makes destinations, especially tourism in Bali,
increasing. Moreover, this is one of the cultures that we must maintain so that in the future we can still
enjoy the art of dance in Bali.
