10 Famous Indonesian Culture Abroad

1. Kecak dance

Bali is a famous tourist destination abroad. Its famous culture is Kecak Dance. Kecak dance is a
dance that is performed as a ballet performed in a mass and there are elements of drama in it.

This dance is classified as ballet because from the whole performance it will depict the role art of
wayang stories such as the characters from Rama and Sinta. It also shows the physical immunity
of the dancers who are not burned by fire. This dance is also specifically used for the religious
rituals of the Hindu community in Bali.

The Kecak dance uses 'cak cak to cak cak to' as accompaniment music. That is why this dance is
called Kecak Dance.

2. Pendet Dance

In addition to Kecak Dance, Pendet Dance has also become worldwide. Pendet dance is a dance
performed by a woman performed as a worship activity at the temple. Now Pendet Dance has
developed into a welcoming dance for the descent of God into the world and a welcome
reception for guests as a welcome.

3. Barong Dance

Another dance from Bali which is famous in foreign countries, namely Barong Dance. Barong
dance is a Balinese dance that has existed since pre-Hindu civilization. This dance illustrates the
fight between good and evil. Barong as a symbol of goodness against Rangda as a symbol of
evil.

4. Puppet

Puppet is a well-known Indonesian culture. Even Puppet has been recognized by UNESCO as
Indonesia's cultural heritage in 2003 and has been widely recognized by the world community.
Even foreigners learn puppets.

Wayang is a performance art that is played by a puppeteer accompanied by gamelan music and
the sound of a pesinden. The story told in a puppet play about Petruk, Semar, Bagong, and
Gareng.
5. Angklung

Angklung is a traditional musical instrument from West Java. The instrument had also received
recognition from UNESCO as part of World Heritage on January 19, 2011. The certificate was
handed over by the former Indonesian Ambassador to UNESCO, Tresna Dermawan Kunaefi to
the then Minister of National Education, Muhammad Nuh.

6. Kris

Kris used by members of the kingdom as a legacy heirloom. Keris is a traditional weapon
believed to contain magical powers. This heritage weapon received recognition from UNESCO
as the 'Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity' on 25 November 2005.

Keris has been used in Indonesia since the 9th century and is made of metal. Keris handles made
of animal bones, wood, or horns.

7. Saman Dance

Saman Dance is a dance originating from Gayo, Aceh. This dance is recognized and entered in
the list of intangible cultural heritage that requires urgent protection UNESCO on November 22-
29, 2011.

The Saman dance shows the applause of other movements without any shifts and contortion of
other limbs and legs. This dance is usually performed to celebrate important events in the local
customs. The poetry in the Saman Dance uses a mixture of Arabic and Gayo languages.

8. Reog Ponorogo

Reog Ponorogo is an Indonesian culture originating from the East Java region. Reog Ponorogo is
one of the traditional arts in the form of dance.

In the performance of Reog Ponorogo there is no definite dance scenario and patent. Usually
Reog artists perform based on the scenes they have learned with the additional motion of
swinging the Reog's head. The Reog performer wears a lion head-shaped mask with a crown
made of peacock feathers. The weight of the crown can reach around 50-60 kilograms.

9. Ramayana Ballet

Ramayana Ballet is a combination of dance and drama performances without dialogue that is
taken from the story of the Ramayana puppet. This ballet was staged in 1961 at Prambanan
Temple in 1961. The performance was on an open stage with a panoramic view of Prambanan
Temple.
10. Batik

Batik is Indonesia's culture that is well-known in foreign countries. Formerly batik is often used
as formal wear. But now batik can also be used for informal events.

Batik is produced from a very unique way of writing hot wax onto the fabric using canting.
