relatives and children.
6. Granary Or the lumbung is the
storage area for rice.
7. Kitchen Or paon is in the south because
of the association with Brahma (the god
of fire) whose place in the south.
8. Protective Wall Or aling-aling, most
behind the gates to deflect the malign
influences.

 Hinduism is “a way of life”, if you build a
temple you will be rewarded. So,
there are many “shrines” which should
be in a
“comfortable” position (for example, under
a large, shady tree) and near water which
has a holy function in Hinduism.

Safari clothes are a type of
Balinese traditional clothing that
must be worn by Balinese men. It has
a collar and two pockets at the
bottom of the shirt with a special shirt
model for Safari wear. Safari clothes
represent the cleanest and sacred
things in Balinese culture. Therefore,
in general, these clothes are white
and must be worn on important
occasions, rituals, or certain cultural
ceremonies.
Balinese Prada belt is a kind
of shawl that you should wear with the
Balinese Kebaya and Kamen. This is not
only an accessory of the clothes but also an
important part of Balinese traditional
clothes that can’t be avoided.Balinese
Prada belt represents the shawl for
protecting every woman on their body,
specifically the rectum. Balinese believe
that the rectum is a graciousness from God.
That is why they should wear the Prada
around their stomach as a protection.
Udeng is made from good fabric
material so that it is comfortable to wear.
There are two kinds of Udeng in Balinese
traditional clothes with a plain and color
type. The plain type should be wear on the
ritual, pray, or specific custom cultural
ceremony.For daily wear, you can use the
color type of Udeng with your favorite
color. Commonly Balinese loves the colors
type of Udeng so that they wear it daily
outside the prayer time.
Kamen is a kind of Balinese
traditional clothes that should be worn by
women. It looks similar to a long skirt but
comes in a long fabric only. You should tie
it up neatly so that you can using it as a
skirt.Kamen has so many variant colors
and beautiful motifs. Commonly it
represents Balinese culture that is
imprinted on the fabric. You can use this
kind of skirt for Balinese ritual, prayer
time, or specific custom cultural
ceremonies.

EXAMPLE OF BALINESE MUSICAL
INSTRUMENT
▶ Ceng-Ceng
▶ The first type of traditional Balinese musical
instrument is Ceng-ceng. The instrument was
made of metal, the shape of a round slab like a
cymbal. It’s played by hitting one plate with
another. The traditional Balinese Ceng-Ceng
musical instrument is commonly called the Ricik
Ceng-ceng. On the outside of the cymbal, there
are red threads used for holding. It’s called
Ceng-ceng because of the sound. When it is hit,
it sounds “ceng ceng ceng”, so that it’s called
musical instrument Ceng-ceng.

▶ Genggong
▶ Genggong, a type of traditional
Balinese musical instrument that sounds
from a vibration. It is made from a thin palm
tree and palayah that’s mounted in the
middle. The edge of this instrument is given
a hole for a rope hook. Well, the rope is
used to make vibrations. To be tight,
palayah is bitten by the mouth and it will
sound magical.

▶ Rindik
▶ The slendro gamelan tune will play from a
set of Rindik. This type of traditional
Balinese musical instrument is made of
bamboo. How to play it is similar to
angklung. The difference is that Rindik is in
the form of a cymbal-like slab, while
angklung is in the form of a tube. In
collaboration music performances, Rindik is
played by 2 to 5 people, followed by the
sound of flutes, gongs, ceng-ceng, and so
forth.
