Detection and Adjustment of tension equalization of traction steel
wire rope
The uneven tension of traction steel wire rope will cause car shake and wear the
traction wheel, therefore, it is necessary to conduct tension testing after hanging the
traction steel wire rope. After the elevator is put into use, regular testing on the tension
of traction steel wire rope is also required. GB 10060-93 Code for acceptance of
elevators installation, Article 4.3.3 specifies that the “the deviation between the tension
and the average value should not exceed 5%”.
Testing of tension of traction steel wire rope is made by “equidistant tension force”
method. The measurement tools include one 200N standard dynamometer, one
300mm steel ruler or one 1 m box ruler.
1.Testing of the tension of traction steel wire rope of the
counter-weight side
1)Move the car to about 1/2 of the whole journey and open one landing door on
the car with an emergency triangle key, press down the red emergency stop switch on
the top to access to the top of the car.
2)Number the traction steel wire rope in sequences, such as A, B, C, D, E, etc. to
record the data.
3)Measure the force of each wire rope under the equidistant state with a 200N
dynamometer; for example: pull the traction steel wire rope A away from the original
place for 150mm along the horizontal direction, record the force 120N on the
dynamometer; pull the traction steel wire rope B away from the original place for
150mm along the horizontal direction with the force 125N; similarly, measure the
traction steel wire ropes C, D, E,F with the forces respectively 132N, 135N, 135N,
133N, and make a record. The rope force measurement point should be on the same
level. Each tensioned point of the ropes when measurement should be at the same
level.
4)Calculate the average value of traction force
Canny Elevator Co., Ltd.

Elevator Installation Instruction Manual (Supplementary sheet)
After measuring the equidistant tension of traction steel wire ropes,
calculate the tensioned average value of the steel wire ropes with the
following formula:

=
FFFFFF

+++++
B C D n

s E F Where:
F K

-The average tension of the traction steel wire

ropes(N);
F A

F E

-The equidistant tension of the traction steel wire ropes(N);

n s

-Number of the traction steel wire ropes to be measured.

In this case, the number of measured elevator traction steel wire ropes is 6,
then

=
120
+++++ 125 132 135 135 6
Canny Elevator Co., Ltd.
133 =
130
5) Deviation of the tension of the traction steel wire ropes
That the average value is subtracted from its equidistant tension should
equal the deviation of the tension of each rope.

2.Adjustment of the tension of the traction steel wire rope
Adjust the tension of the traction wire rope that exceeds the standard according to
the calculated tension percentage (adjust the nuts on the taper sleeve of the wire
ropes to allow the force of the traction wire rope to be balanced). Fix the taper sleeve
when adjusting to prevent the rotation of the traction wire ropes.
To meet the satisfactory results, it is required to adjust the tension of the traction
wire rope for several times. Since when releasing or tightening the taper sleeve bolts,
the traction wire rope cannot be changed in pace, and it is required to repeat for
several times to adjust the tension on the traction wire rope uniform.

Installation of Guide Rails
The running speed, stability and noise level of the elevator are directly affected by
the fabrication precision and installation quality of the guide rails. In regard to the
installation, it is required that the guide rails shall be upright and vertical and two guide
rails shall be parallel, and the connections shall be treated smooth etc. Therefore,
during the elevator installation, the erection of the guide rails shall be handled
carefully.
The following attentions shall be paid during the installation of guide rails:
(1) The connections of the two lines of guide rails for the car shall not be at
the same level (see to the diagram);
(2) When the elevator bumps into the top and sits on the bottom, every
guide shoe shall not exceed the guide rails;
(3) The working surface of the guide rails shall be free from any scratch,
burr or bend and the straightness of each guide rail shall have an error
not more than 1/6000 of its length; the deviation of a single guide rail
with the installation datum at an interval of 5m shall not be above the
following values:
10.6mm for the car guide rails and the counterweight guide rails
installed with the counterweight safety gear;
21.0mm for the counterweight guide rails without safety gear;

▲Installation of Safety gear
Installation Precautions:
(1) The nameplate of safety gear is marked: - guide rail width, - if allowed quality
matches the installed elevator.
(2) If the lead seals on the safety gear are intact. The safety gear has been adjusted
when they leave the factory and shall not be changed without approval.
(3) Fasten the safety gear with the lower beam by the bolts, and install and tighten the
pull rod for the safety gear installed on the upright beam. Install the switch of the
safety gear properly. Adjust the symmetrical action on both sides identical and
switching action of safety gear reliable to enable it to disconnect the control circuit
instantly when the safety gear device acts and then screw the pull rod that drives
the wedges into the wedges till they are tightened.
(4) Carry out the final inspection and adjustment.
Type approval test: after the traction rope is dragged broken, when the car
descending speed exceeds the action speed of the governor, the safety gear shall
be able to grip the car with the load 125% above the rated load on the guide rails.
Meanwhile, the safety gear on both sides of the car shall take action
simultaneously with the uniform action force on both sides to enable the switch of
safety gear to disconnect the power supply first before the safety gear activates its
stop function.

the braking action immediately;
(2) During the installation of governor
sheave, its deviation with the
vertical line shall not exceed 0.5mm;
the deviations of the governor steel
wire rope with the guiding surface
and top surface of the guide rails
shall neither exceed 10mm;
(3) The governor shall run stably. Its
seal on the action speed setting
shall be intact upon ex-factory. The
governor shall be installed correctly
with a firm base, and shall have no
vibration during its linkage with the
safety gear.
