History is not only the study of the past but also a manifestation of our curiosity to rediscover

and understand the origins of events that transcribed during those times. However this
primary sources are not entirely reliable due to, in most occasions being only parts of parts of
parts of a whole thus the data that is acquired can be partly credible or fabricated which would
complicate our comprehension of its history. That is why careful examination is needed in
order to arrive at a credible conclusion. In Cavite, Philippine islands 1872 the Cavite mutiny
began and rose up against Spanish tyranny in the hopes of attaining equal rights.
Unfortunately it was unsuccessful and in vain. But the cause of this unexpected revolution is
debated whether it is a labor issue or was it a conspiracy, which could be examined through
the two versions of it, the Spanish and Filipino version, in which I believe the Filipino version
that it was caused due to labor issues.

A.
 According to Dr. Trinidad H. Pardo de tavera that the Spanish version that was written by
Jose Montero Y Vidal was heavily bias and that it only glorified the Spaniards and made
the indios rebels that wanted to overthrow the Spanish crown from the Philippines. It was
also unsupported of any significant evidences that it claims on the indios mutiny in Fort
San Felipe, Cavite. In the Filipino version written by Dr. Trinidad H. Pardo de tavera the
mutiny occurred not because the natives wanted to overthrow Spain but because the
new governor general Rafael Izquierdo issuing changes that he sees fit for the people
which in turn made the natives, soldiers, and mestizos grew displeasure of the changes
that stripped the privileges that they enjoyed. It is also stated that they did not intended to
overthrow Spain yet but only wanted to have equal rights and privileges.

 According to the Filipino version written by Dr. Trinidad H. Pardo de tavera that During
the time of governor general La torre, Filipinos were more free and was able to announce
their dissatisfaction with the treatment of the friars and other Spanish officials which was
usually always heard and considered by the Spanish court in Spain. Thus the colonial
minister proposed to make reforms in the colonial system in order to have harmony,
peace, and prosperity in the Philippine islands. But this was all retracted with the arrival
of governor general Rafael Izquierdo and also because the friars felt that their power in
the Philippine would wane. Which is why the Cavite mutiny occurred because of the
broken promises that were ensured to the natives.

B.
 According to the Spanish version written by Jose Montero Y Vidal that the cause of the
Cavite mutiny was because after the abolishment of the natives labor privileges the
natives, clergy, soldiers and mestizos had had enough of the Spanish rule and conspired
to initiate a revolt and overthrow the Spaniards and establish a new Tagalog government.
This was also mentioned in the Filipino version that though it was primarily because of

labor issues, some natives and mestizos joined together to plan and prepare a revolution
to usurp and overthrow Spain. It is also stated by governor general Rafael Izquierdo that
the mutiny was planned and prepared by the native mestizos, clergy, and lawyers to
attain independence. But this was not a likely motive during that time, according to the
Filipino version the natives where already enjoying their privileges and rights that they
did not have enough will to initiate a revolution and to denounce Spain. Though there
were already a political agenda brewing for about 30 years but it was not that much
significant at that time.

 According from the two versions The Cavite mutiny was unsuccessful and many natives
were arrested and executed especially Gomburza, to instill fear and obedience from the
natives. According to the Filipino version it was effective because in the aftermath the
people never thought or talked about seceding from Spain and that they never blamed
Spain for their poor state and conditions, the native were now fully controlled by the
Spaniards. But this was not entirely true because though yes the mutiny was
unsuccessful and many were executed it did not only instilled fear but also began the
spirit of the Filipinos. Which they realized that the abuse of Spain must not be tolerated
anymore and that a revolution must be initiated to attain independence from Spain.

In my final verdict the Spanish version is full of imaginative ideas and beliefs that leans more
on the interest of the Spaniards rather than the truth. It twist truths and opinions that would be
bias to the image perfect of Spain and blame the natives for their inferior culture and thinking.
In the Filipino version it is much more credible and true to the happenings in the Cavite
mutiny. That it presents the event in what it is and not what the historian wants it to be, which
gives justice to the historical data and to the people who sacrificed their lives.
