Absolutely innovative for its time, the

original Cidadela Hotel immediately
attracted numerous world-famous
guests. Charmed by the Litestyle and
Wellness of Cascais, the jet set world was
fascinated by this Portuguese kind of
Saint Tropez.
One of the first celebrated guests was
Brazilian singer Vinicius de Moraes, well
known for his hit song «The Girl of
Ipanema». In 1969 it was the turn of the
Cidadela Hotel to receive the Irish
playwright Samuel Beckett who fell in
love with the region. Next it was the
great rock bands Genesis and Iron
Maiden with great concerts scheduled
for Portugal. But the list of celebrities

The Cidadela Hotel hosted celebrities
such as Duke Ellington, El Cordobés,
João Moura, Paulo Caetano (well known
Portuguese bullfighter), Rão Kyao a
well-known Portuguese singer,
champion tennis player John McEnroe,
Maria Barroso Soares former first lady,
F1 pilots Fernando Alonso and Nelson
Piquet. These are just some of the
celebrities that have been charmed by
