CHAOS
The Rules
1. Sing independently.
2. Everyone must sing, and you should sing at a normal
volume at your own speed or pace.
3. Use hand signs.
4. Ignore everyone around you. Create your own “bubble
world.”
5. Keep singing until the teacher tells you to stop (usually
about one minute). You must sing the entire time even
if you sing it perfect the first time. If you finish early,
then go back and sing it again.
6. You are not allowed to sing with others or work
together in any way.
7. If you encounter a difficult spot, go back and practice
that spot until time is called.
8. The teacher will simply watch you work. This is one of
the ways you will receive your daily grade.

Using the rules of CHAOS, practice the sight reading below.
Be sure to practice until I say STOP.
Even if you get it right the first time, go back and practice again.
This is the Key of C. Your first note is C. Therefore, C is Do.

Key Signature
A group of sharps or a group of flats that tells you the key
of the written music. For vocalists, the key signature tells
you which note is Do.
Since our key signature has zero sharps and zero flats, we
are in the key of C. Therefore, C is Do.
C = Do D = Re E = Mi F = Fa
G = Sol A = La B = Ti

Since our key signature has zero sharps and one flat, we
are in the key of F. Therefore, F is Do.
F = Do G = Re A = Mi Bb = Fa

Key Signature
The key signature will alternate between the Key of C and
the Key of F. Remember, “ I see no sharps. I see no flats.
I must be in the Key of C.” If you see one flat, you are in
the Key of F.
