1. As per Section 55(c) (1) of the Income Tax Act (25/2019), if at the time of (dividend) payment it
cannot be determined whether or not the shareholder who receives the payment is resident in the
Maldives, it shall be deemed that the person is not a resident in the Maldives; and requires the Bank
to deduct a non-resident withholding tax of 10% from such payments.
2. As per the Income Tax Act (25/2019), ‘Resident’ means: in the case of an individual, any person (i)
whose permanent place of living is in the Maldives; or (ii) who is present in the Maldives or intends
to be present in the Maldives for an aggregate of 183 (One Hundred and Eighty-Three) days or
more in any 12 (Twelve) month period commencing or ending during a tax year; or (iii) who is an
employee or official of the Government of the Maldives and is posted overseas during a tax year.
3. Please submit the following documents along with this form.
a) ID card copy/registration certificate (for legal entities) of the shareholder
b) Copy of legal guardianship document (for minor shareholders)
c) ID card copy of dividend payee (in case of cheques)
d) Copy of account holder’s national ID (in case of depositing to accounts)
