REFLECTION

a. Why did you choose this unit topic?

It was a subject of choice which allowed for maximum communicative opportunities and minimum memorisation
necessary. It also seemed interesting from a high school student’s perspective in terms of allowing them to express
their likes and opinions regarding their own inspirational figures.

b. When you are planning your unit and lesson plans, which of the ASSURE steps do you think you spend most of
your time thinking about? Why?

We have spent a great deal of time thinking about the audience. This required us to analyse the learners by drawing a
general mental picture of a ninth-grade high school student. We had to take into consideration their levels, what they
may or may not know, the prerequisites, and so on.

c. For each individual phases in the ASSURE model, please write your experiences and rationales while designing your
unit plan, lesson plan, and materials. Make sure your reflection involves your answers to these questions:

o How did you determine the prerequisite skills or knowledge (if any) for your plan? What is the rationale
behind the time allocation?

We decided to make a three-week plan in which the first two weeks are designed for students to learn new
content whereas the last week is mostly a communicative revision allowing students to build on top of their
previous learning.

o How did you determine and write your objectives?

We went over the ASSURE model PDF’s to understand what is expected from us. We wanted them to be as
clear as possible, so that knowing what is needed to achieve them would be clearer as well.

o How did you decide instructional methods, media and materials? Why did you choose them?

We had to use all 5, of course, so we thought about which material would suit which activity/topic best and
used them accordingly.

o What is the instructional theory on which your instructional activities are based? Or do you use eclectic
approach for them? Why?

We used an eclectic method in which we blended different methods. We used the Cooperative Learning
method, Presentation, Discussion and Games.

We have also used Grammar Translation Method, Community Language Learning, Communicative Language
Teaching, Total Physical Response.

We didn’t think sticking to one method only would be very effective, so we tried to include different methods
in order to balance different learning styles.

o How did you plan to utilize these instructional methods, media and materials?

We decided to use as many visual tools as possible so we have used tools like Prezi, Infographic,
Powtoon, etc.

We used Infograpic (via: Pictochart) to teach the vocabulary items, used a presentation tool (Prezi),
an animation tool (Powtoon), and a concept map (Bubbleus) to introduce new topics. And a google form for
evaluation.

o How did you plan for learner participation?

We tried involving as many learner-centered activities as possible such as a competition which encouraged
engagement and discussions between peers.

o How did you plan for evaluation and revision? What is the rationale for choosing the measurement and
evaluation methods?

We thought, out of all the materials, Google Forms would suit assessment best. We wanted to see that
students could really produce something new during these evaluations. And also measure the students’
information.
