Guiding Question:
Am I giving a good introduction and conclusion to my Guided Math
lessons?
Observation Notes:
Owls – Intro - gave CM a counting on question for warm up
Conclusion – what did we learn about counting on today? Did a review
question – Good reinforcement!
Raccoons –
Intro: What have we been practicing? – PP answered correctly
-Gave counting on questions to warm up and had them explain
-Transitioned into Make 10 by asking “what is our special number we’ve
been working on?”
Conclusion: “What did we learn about making 10 that we didn’t know
before?
EL 8+2, BT ??, PP 4+6, “I learned that 4+6 and 6+4 could be flipped”, TT
shared a few ways
Birds – Intro: quick review – “what have we been learning?” – Ways to
make 10
Conclusion: Why are we learning this? – Quick explanation of how easy it
is to use 10
Apples – Intro: gave counting on questions
Conclusion: – What did you learn?
-L flipping numbers makes it easier
-TB make a 10 is fun!
Follow up Questions:
-Did the introductions and conclusions go as you had planned? How did
students respond to you?
They did well. I wanted them to explain their thinking… ex: putting the
big number in their head (reinforcement) and show me on their fingers.
-What will you do with the groups tomorrow? Why?
-I think they are ready for doubles. We will still use warm up with the
other strategies.
