Intern Observation - Megan McCleary

Date: February 4 Lesson: Doubles

Whole Group game, Guided Math
Centres
Guiding Question:
How do I handle BC’s pouting and defiance?
Observation Notes:
-BC had a good transition to the carpet and listened well
-He chose the same game as he has chosen all week for math by myself
-Took a 7 minute bathroom break after he saw CM come back
-Kept asking me what 3+6 makes and pouted when I said I couldn’t help
him– walked around the room and watched everyone else instead of
finishing.
-Asked what he is doing and you answered
-start to give him skills to be independent – ask him to look around
and see what Cole or one of his group member’s is doing
- he logged into computer successfully without help today!
**LM, KS, PP interruption – asking if they need help and gave good
suggestion to reroll
-BC had a great afternoon, -Remember that BC is weak and didn’t have
our English math instruction until this week, so be gentle when working
directly with him – a good way to build trust
BC had a good afternoon but don’t forget to watch others – lots of small
behaviours turning into bad habits –
Use what you learned from watching my guided reading lesson this
morning. I stopped a lot because they had been acting up in independent
time lately – seen major improvement this week from all of the
reinforcement
Follow up Questions:
-How do you think BC’s afternoon went?
-discussed importance of “front loading” or “scaffolding” a student to be
successful and independent
**discussed 30 second interventions taken from Restitution resources
