COMMUNICATION & EQUIPMENT PROCEDURES

FIELD TRAINING PREPARATION FACTS

After this lesson, the officer should:


 Understand the importance of communication skills.
 Understand telephone procedures for the site.
 Understand telephone etiquette for handling the telephone traffic at all hours
 Understand the do’s and do not’s according to company policy on phone usage.
 Understand the importance of telephone messages
 Understand and agree to have a radio on their persons at all times while on duty
 Understand the importance of keeping the radio turned on at a proper volume
 Understand and agree to monitor all radio traffic
 Understands and agrees to respond promptly to all radio traffic directed to them
 Understand and agrees to check that radio equipment is constantly in operating order.
 Understand and agrees to obey lawful, appropriate directions given to them by
supervisory personnel or dispatch personnel by radio communication
 Understand and memorize all “CODES” used by the site.
 Understands how to communicate professionally, concisely and clearly over the radio
 Understands how to accurately use and respect department radio codes
 Agrees to not use the radio for any purposes other than official use
 Agrees to notify prior to interacting or changing locations
 Agrees to obey principles of operational security in their radio use
 Agrees to not say words over the radio that would tend to evoke apprehension, fear or
panic among bystanders or others were they to overhear them
 Understands and agrees to communicate over the radio in a manner that does not detract
from promoting the image they represent.
