Coimbatore

Agro Advisory
Crop Stage Advisory
General Thunderstorm with heavy rainfall may continue in Coimbatore and
moderate rainfall in Erode and Tiruppur districts is expected for next five
days. Provide adequate drainage to all crops. Spraying and fertilizer
application may be done only when there is no rain for minimum six
hours.
Harvest the excess rain water in farm pond to reuse during dry periods.
Rice Tillering Spray 1% Urea +2% DAP + 1% KCl to improve flowering and also grain in
medium duration samba rice at panicle initiation stage.
Since weather condition is favourable blast incidence in rice, farmers are
requested to monitor the crop carefully and spray with Azaxitrobin @
1ml/ litre of water, only when there is 6 hours of non rainy period after
the spray.
Continuous cloudiness with high relative humidity may favour the
multiplication of brown plant hopper in rice. Hence monitor the crop and
provide sufficient drainage and ventilation for more aeration. Further
spray Imidacloprid 125ml/ha at basal of the stem.
Pulses Sowing Provide drainage to encourage germination of the Bengal gram seeds
sown, since rain is anticipated.
Sunflower Sowing Sowing of sunflower and coriander may be taken up based on soil
moisture and provide adequate drainage to encourage germination.
Cotton Anticipating continuous rain, proper drainage may be given to irrigated
cotton against yellowing of leaves.
The Cambodia cotton variety sown in August might have come for boll
bursting stage. Since wet spell continues, boll bursting may not be
uniform and hence postpone boll picking.
Sugarcane Detrashing and double line propping may be done to the late season
sugarcane crop to avoid lodging due to moisture and light wind.
Banana Heavy rainfall is expected with wind speed of 8 km/hr. Provide adequate
support to banana of above 5 months old.
Coconut This is best time for second does application of fertilizer to coconut @
650 g urea + 1 kg super phosphate + 1 kg muriate of potash / tree.
Turmeric Due to continuous wet weather, leaf blotch disease in turmeric may be
appearing and to control the disease spray Propicozonole @ 1 ml only
when there is 6 hours of non rainy period after the spray.
Low minimum temperature and wind speed 10 km/hr are anticipated in
the forth coming five days. This may induce infection of leaf spot disease
in irrigated turmeric. If infection is there, spray carbendazim 500g / ha
(or) Mancozeb 1 Kg/ha (or) Copper oxy chloride 1.25 Kg/ha in 500 liters
of water.
Mango Due to continuous wet weather, vegetative growth is observed in mango
and to induce flowering spray paclobutrazole 10g or 1% KNO3.
Animal During monsoon season of continuous wet spell, protein deficiency and
immunity deficiency induced bacterial and viral infection may occur in
livestock animals. Consult local veterinary doctor.
Against low temperature, high calories feed may be given to animals and
poultry.
As rainfall is expected proper shelter may be provided sheep and goat.
SMS advisory

moderate rainfall in Erode and Tiruppur districts is expected for next five
Maize Vegetative Since rainfall is expected second topdressing of Nitrogen may be done to
maize crop. Nitrogen may be applied as slow release form such as neem
coated urea.
Tapioca Tapioca may be top dressed with 40 kg Nitrogen and 120 kg potassium
followed by earthing up.
Consult local veterinary doctor .
Against low temperature, high calories feed may be given to animals and
poultry.
As rainfall is expected proper shelter may be provided sheep and goat.

Chilli Vegetative stage Continues rain / high intensity rain result to water logged condition
Damping off may occur, to control following measures to be adopted.
Soil drenching with Copper oxychloride2.5g/litre. Symptoms - The

Livestock Goat Management practices for rainy season: 1. Animals should be treated
for ectoparasites before and throughout the rainy season. 2.
Worm burden is more common in rainy season. Therefore, deworming
should be done before the onset of rainy season. 3. Animal’s
shed should be free from water logging conditions as it may cause
bacterial infections especially mastitis. Daily disinfection of floor should
be done. 4. Green fodders should be fed to the animals after proper
drying which will prevent enteritis. 5. Animals should be allowed
for grazing only during sunny hours. 6. Concentrate feed should be
stored in a clean, damp free room to prevent mould attack
