Agro Advisory

Crop Stage Advisory

General Moderate rainfall with wind speed up to 20 km/hr is expected in western zone
during next five days. Hence, precautionary measures may be taken to avoid life
and economic loss in the farms
Cool weather may restrict the root activity, hence avoid top dressing of
fertilizers to rainfed and irrigated crops.

Rice Vegetative Because of low temperature and high relative humidity, infection from bacterial
Flowering leaf blight is expected in rice crop. To control spray, Streptomycin sulphate +
Tetracycline combination 300 g + Copper oxychloride 1250 g/ha. If necessary
repeat 15 days later.
Prevailing weather condition is favourable for false smut attack in rice. To
control 1 ml propiconozole or 1ml hexaconozole or copper oxychloride 2.5 g/lit
or copper hydroxide 2.5 g/ lit. If required repeat the spray at 15 days interval.
For samba transplanted paddy, Zn SO4 @ 0.5% and urea @1% during flowering
stage and 2% DAP and 1% Kcl for after flowering crop may be sprayed during
rain free period.
Considering the cool weather preparation of paddy nursery may be initiated for
Navarai season.
Cotton Harvest Since rainfall is expected the cotton kapas may be picked up during non rainy
hours, shaded dried and stored immediately.
Banana Garden land banana may be planted by utilizing the rainfall.
wind speed of 6 – 20 km/hr with rainfall is expected. Hence, propping may be
done in five months old and above banana and sugarcane.
Turmeric Vegetative In irrigated turmeric, considering the high relative humidity, low minimum
temperature and high wind speed, epidemic on leaf spot disease may occur.
Spray carbendazim (1g/1lit of water) or 2g of Mancozeb per liter of water.
Grapes Prevailing low temperature is favourable for powdery mildew incidence in
grapes therefore farmers are requested to monitor the crop carefully spray 0.3
% wettable sulphur or dust sulphur 6 to 12 kg/ ha in the morning hrs.
Present weather is favourable for downy mildew incidence in grapes. Monitor
and spray 1% Bordeaux mixture or any other copper fungicide at 0.25%.
Animal High wind speed with moderate rainfall is expected. Hence, keeping animals in
nearby electric post or trees may be avoided.
Both maximum and minimum temperature are low and hence cold weather is
anticipated. Protect animal from cold weather by hanging gunny bag around
the animal and poultry shed. Feed the dairy animals and poultry with high
calorie feeds.
Prevent animal from drinking of stagnated rainwater against food
contamination. Provide clean and good drinking water to animals.
Present weather is conducive for Anthrax disease in animals, hence vaccination
may be done at near by animal husbandry hospitals.
