1. What is your full name, age, and date of birth?

Name’s Lewis Clark, 34 years old. 28th February, 1813

2. What is your ethnic/cultural heritage?

I’m a Caucasian male born and brought up right here in New York.

3. What is your religion/spiritual belief system?

I don’t believe there is a God who takes care of us. Each of us has to take care of ourselves, that’s
how the world works.

4. What is your marital status?

I haven’t the time to get married. Of course, if I ever wanted to, finding a bride wouldn’t be an issue,
but I’m so caught up in my work.

5. Do you have children? (If so who are they?)

No wife, no children. Not really good with children.

6. What is your occupation?

I’m the chief editor of the monthly The Knickerbocker here in New York. It’s a magazine for working
adults to entertain themselves with short stories, puzzles, games, and sorts. Just this year, we
became the number 3 best selling magazine in New York!

7. Who are you closest to in the play? Why?

Elizabeth is my assistant here at the office. I guess she’s the one person I interact with on a regular
basis. She’s quite clumsy and not very good at a lot of things, but she tries.

8. Who do you not get along with in the play? Why?

I don’t think there’s anyone that I don’t get along with. I guess I just have a way with people.
Knowing what people like and dislike is an important characteristic to have if you’re in a profession
like mine.
9. What is the single most important event in your life?

Becoming the chief editor at the Knickerbocker has to be one of the highlights of my life. It was
seven years ago; we were not even in the top 20 in New York back then. Through dedication and
hard work, I have made this magazine what it is today.

10. What is your level of education?

I was the first in my family to go to university. I worked hard and earned myself a Bachelor’s degree
in the Arts.

11. What is your overall goal in the play?

I’m trying to meet deadlines here. The draft of the magazine is due at 7pm and we’re barely going to
make it. The riddles are an important section in our magazine, and I must make sure that they come
from credible sources.

12. Where do you want to be in five years?

I want to be at the top. I want the Knickerbocker to be the number 1 bestselling magazine in its
category!

Character monologue:

Epilogue:

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to steal credit for something I didn’t come up with. If you
think about it carefully, Elizabeth didn’t even know the great question of the universe. She thought it
was just about the chicken. I was the one who connected it to the greater question, and hence the
better answer. The words in the question might be the same as the one proposed by Elizabeth, but
the meaning is completely different, and hence, it is a different riddle. And anyways, Elizabeth is still
young an inexperienced, she has many more opportunities waiting for her.
