5 core capabilities

CAPABILITY TO COMMIT AND ENGAGE

This is like the living heart of each living creature:

does the organization has everything in place that it
can start running when it wants or needs to. It
includes issues like evolution, empowerment,
motivation, attitude, confidence, identity, helpful
systems and leadership. An organization that lacks
this capability does not have a drive, no passion, is
stuck, trapped or immobilized.
5 core capabilities

CAPABILITY TO DELIVER RESULTS

This capability describes the knowledge, expertise

and experience required to carry out actions and
achieve the results aimed for. This includes technical
and logistical skills, but also managerial capacity. The
way the organisation is organised can enable or
obstruct performance. The systems and procedures
such as financial systems and the project
management cycle need to support the staff in their
technical tasks.
5 core capabilities

CAPABILITY TO RELATE AND TO ATTRACT

RESOURCES

An organisation does not stand on its own. This

capability refers to the ability to initiate and
maintain relationships with other organizations and
individuals and to be able to attract support
resources and support for its continued existence.
Through building of coalitions and alliances the
organisation’s legitimacy and position can be
consolidated and it’s effectiveness can be enhanced.
Finally the capability describes the organisation’s
ability to influence its environment through
negotiation and advocacy.
5 core capabilities

CAPABILITY TO ADAPT AND SELF-RENEW

In a continuously changing environment, building a

strong and stable organization is no longer sufficient.
For organizational survival, the ability continue to be
relevant, effective and efficient is central.
Sustainability of an organization includes being
dynamic and self-renewing. This includes issues like
learning, strategizing, adaptation, repositions,
managing change, using monitoring and evaluation
not just for reporting or accountability, but first of all
for adjustment, adaptation, improvement and
innovation.
5 core capabilities

CAPABILITY TO ACHIEVE COHERENCE

This is the question if the organization is a unified

whole. Is the organization a collection of loose pieces
or do these pieces really form one jigsaw puzzle with
a nice picture. By ensuring availability of a broad
variety of skills, perspectives and visions amongst
members and divisions an organisation develops the
flexibility to react adequately to different situations.
It also includes managing the balance between
diversity and focus, between innovation and stability
and other balances.
